Bad Day for Music

We will have days like this occasionally. It’s always sad when the music from our lives is silenced in death, but every now and then we lose more than one major figure in one day. Shortly after the news of Helen Reddy’s passing came, another breaking news story brought with it the sadness of another loss: Mac Davis. Davis had bypass surgery on Monday, then suffered a heart attack on Tuesday while recovering. Mac Davis is one of those names in music that “everybody” knows. Whether it’s for his acting (he was in the film North Dallas Forty), his hits (“Baby Don’t Get Hooked on Me” was a big crossover success), or his songwriting (he wrote Elvis’ hit “In the Ghetto”), Davis was a popular figure for years. So we bid farewell to our second music star from the early 70s with the death of Mac Davis, who, like Helen Reddy, was 78. Mac Davis singing his composition “In the Ghetto”:

So sad to hear! I enjoyed the movie North Dallas Forty with Davis leading the team at QB. He did a great job in that role. And Helen Reddy, although not a fan of her pop music, I do have her Christmas Albums where her voice was so suited to that genre.

I hadn't heard about Mac Davis. It's sad to hear of the passing of such legends. And 78 isn't old by anybody's standards.
