Another coincidence. As I mentioned when I introduced this series a couple of days ago, it was merely a coincidence that DB and I are featuring songs with “baby” in the title. It’s also a coincidence that I kick off this month-long celebration of “baby” songs with someone who just passed away. Here’s our first baby of the month. Angie Baby - Helen Reddy This was one of Helen Reddy’s biggest hits. It’s pretty appropriate for Halloween month, too, if you think about it, because this has a Twilight Zone feeling to it. A girl, thought to be mentally deficient, loves her radio. Somehow, she uses the radio to “kidnap” a local peeping Tom neighbor boy who was there “with evil on his mind.” Here’s a “did-you-know” piece of trivia about this song: Alan O’Day, the singer who had the 1977 #1 hit “Undercover Angel,” wrote this. O’Day died of brain cancer in 2013. And we lost Helen Reddy from the complications of dementia earlier this week. May they rest in peace with that radio by their side. Angie Baby Written by Alan O’Day Recorded by Helen Reddy From Free and Easy, 1974 Well, maybe:

I didn't know the backstory on this song. Very interesting. R.I.P. Helen.

Love that song! I played it on our piano a few days ago when I was fooling around. Helen ready sang it much better than I did. My husband started howling.

I like that song. I remember learning to play that when I took piano lessons. I still remember the keys for the most part, which is really remarkable. Funny what we remember, and crazy what we forget.
