I Got the Job!

I shared to you some days ago that I went on a job interview. And guess what? I got the job! I am so very happy and excited about it. Next task is resignation. I am a little worried on how to do this. I’m not sure if it should be email or face to face. And also what to say to not offend my current workplace. Any tips?

Yeah I think that’s the best way to do it. I just really don’t want to lie about why I’m moving but I don’t want to offend them as well.

@flapiz Another job should not offend. I am sure you will figure it out.

Face to face is the best way. Especially if you might someday need to put them on your job history. Some employers actually do call previous employers.

Yeah they do. Reference check is quite stringent here in UK.

@flapiz it's hit and miss here in the US, or at least it was while I was still in the workforce, I've been retired for a number of years now, so I am not sure anymore. But I know as a manager, I made several of those verification calls.

@cperry2 Well I’ll try to stay in the good side of my manager cause I can’t risk not having her on my favour whilst I haven’t moved on yet.

Congratulations for that job. l think it would be better to resign and submit it formally to your current employer. l think your current employer will understand it.

@flapiz What a the policy where you currently work? How much notice do you have to give? When are you supposed to start at the new job? Why are you leaving? If you are leaving for a reason then do it face to face and tell them why you are leaving and when you have to start the new job. Just a thought. Congrats on the new job and good luck.

Thank you. We require 2 months notice before leaving and on top of that I have to pay for contract breech. I’m leaving because of toxic work culture and also because I got offered a higher paying position.

Congratulations!! On your new job. I would suggest it to be face to face as that is more professional and polite way to do that. I would have done it with all the things that I learnt at that place and how it helped me. And a new job is always an opportunity for growth and they should not mind it.

@arunima25 I was asking how it’s done first now I have my resolve. I got a template of a resignation letter. I will then edit and personalise and ask someone to print it so I can hand it in personally.

Formally, they will maybe need some text from you so you can email them as well. Sometimes, the contract is for ar least a period of time if they invested on you for example, if they teached you things, you cost them money. They need you to work for at least a period of time. If you quit before the contract ends, you will maybe need to pay a fee. If you got fired, you don't need to pay. They need to have an evidence about your quitting and not getting fired. Face to face is a way to end, maybe it is a formal way they need to remember how it ended in case you might want to come back. I once got fired from a job, they got me to talk face to face so I can explain why I made a mistake and I explained them that the job might be too complicated for me. Year and a half later I wanted to come back and they reminded me what I had told them, so, I came out like a noob. Think about what you tell them. To keep the good relationship and in case you need to come back to them in the future. They make documentation for legal issues.

Yes I am going to be paying breech of contract since I only managed 14 months instead of 3 years. I am more than happy to pay for my freedom.

Congrats on getting the job. You will need to do a formal letter of resignation then go ahead and do a face to face announcement of the resignation with your boss.

Yeah cause most people suggest face to face but then you’d have to say why you need to talk face to face so I think the letter would be my opening statement.

First off, congratulations and good luck with your new job I personally do both each time I leave a job. If I were you, I'd take my line manager aside and tell him/her face-to-face and thank them for the opportunity. Even if they were not a good boss, you want to leave on a good note because you don't know what the future holds. Next, I'd submit a written resignation letter to make it formal and get my notice started.

The best way to resign is face to face with a formal, written resignation to hand to your boss. Good luck on your next adventure.

Just be yourself. Make them know you are what they're looking for. Fashion is important when being in a job interview so wear the best garment you got. First impression counts! Once you sign that contract the rest is history! Glad to hear you got a new job!

When they ask you Tell me about yourself? The real question is what will you helpful for my company. Be straight to your point, dont tell them what happend to you years ago or funny stories or like your hobbies. Tell them for only 2 minutes how you can help them, your skills and some dry things about you, Parents, where you live, sistsrs/brothers and thats all. Be calm, speak good and dont be nervous :)
