Under extenuating circumstances

John, my lead teacher is leaving his contract, under extenuating circumstances. Last school year he had a roll over accident in his truck, and walked away. But . . . he had neck and maybe spinal damage. To help the pain he went to a chiropractor, who in treating him, manipulated his neck. In February, right before spring break, he was hospitalized for extreme pain, and had surgery on his neck. He has been doing therapies to help him regain his strength and use of his legs and hands. It is not progressing well. He is too tired from working full time. His wife and family have persuaded him that he needs to focus on taking care of his health. I am sad. He is a really good teacher and leader. Keep us in mind as they start looking for a replacement.

We all gave him a big hug, and cried a little. He is good to work with.

It is a shame. I have not worked with him much, but have learned a lot. He has lots of compassion for these kids and the ones with difficult home life.

While now is the worst time to be out of work, it's true. He should put his health first. Perhaps he could consider getting critified to tell teach in his spare time. He could still teach, but at a pace befitting his current health. I wish him well and a possible speedy recovery.

He does not really need the income. He has earned retirement packages in some other places. He owns a small business near his home. We need him, but he wants to live long and well and enjoy his grandchildren.

Yes sadly injuries can show up later after an accident. I hope he will recover and have a less pain filled life. Saying a prayer for a good replacement for the kids and you

You should never walk away from an accident without first getting checked by a medical professional.

He has come a long way since last spring, but he needs to not overdo it. He wants to live long and enjoy his family in his "golden years".

He has a lot of accumulated sick days, that will likely cash out. He has enough credits for retirement from at least two states, as well. I would be concerned about his health insurance, though.

You hit the nail on the head. He needs to do this. He hates to leave, and says this is the best team of paraprofessionals he has ever had the privilege to work with. It was a very hard decision.
