My grandmother taught me how to read when I was pretty little. Before school was even on the horizon. She read to me, taught me to read and in general fostered my love of books from a very early age.
I can remember her reading Charlotte's Web to me when I was pretty little. Likewise, I can remember watching this movie over and over. I can see the case fo the VHS hidden in the light wooden movie case that stood in the living-room at my grandparents living room forever.
Anyway, none of that really has to do with the movie. It just has to do with the fact that I have some pretty strong memories from my childhood that are tied to this movie. It was remade into a live action movie in the early 2000's, but that's not the version that I remember.
The old, grainy 1973 version is the one burned into my memory forever. I loved the story of the "magic" spider trying to help the pig escape a not so fun end.
This movie is one of those childhood movies that if I found it on DVD, I would probably have to buy it instantly. Not that I would even really ever watch it, but just because of the nostalgia factor.
Do you remember this movie?
Directed by Charles A. Nichols, Iwao Takamoto. With Debbie Reynolds, Henry Gibson, Paul Lynde, Rex Allen. A gentle and wise grey spider with a flair for promotion pledges to save a young pig from slaughter for dinner food.

I've seen a few, but not many. At least not many that I actually remember.
I need to get the Marx brothers movies, and watch Duck Soup.

I absolutely love this movie and have it on video, The relationship between the spider and the pig Wilbur is so wonderful, I was cheering when they threw a parade for Wilbur,

I remember reading the book but I don't remember the movie. I was a fast learner when I was learning to read at school. It was probably one of the only things I was good at, that and drawing.
