I just learned, on Facebook, no less, that the elementary will not have school today.
A staff member has tested positive for covid-19.
I don't know who.
I do not know what this does about my bus riding.
My students on the first leg of the bus run go to a different school district, and they are middle school.
Our district will have middle school today. I am sure theirs will as well.
The notice, on Facebook, said all staff and students from Pre-K (3 and 4 yr olds) to 5th grade will be out of school today while they start contact tracing.
I guess I need to find out for sure what I am doing.

From information I received I know that I had no contact with this staff member. I think if we have two or more positives at a time we will shut down everyone.

@much2say Because I ride the bus I am in the building an hour and a half less than most, so that helps. The bus driver is careful, I am careful. I limit where I am in the building as well. I think the reason I am not considered exposed is that I did not eat in the breakroom Friday or Monday.

@GardenGerty Hopefully it was caught in time and there won't be any further spreading. Yes, what a relief to know you were not near this person!!!

They have contact tracing underway. Students who will be quarantined will learn remotely.

Well I hope it turns out that you didn't have any contact with this staff member. There's been cases at our local schools/colleges too. Alot of the colleges are now 100% remote learning due to several cases.

Yes at nearby colleges there are cases. I had no contact at all with the infected person.

how awful, 'tis been a big fear 'f mine. our governor'd originally said no school 't all fer our county coz our numbers'd soared prior to the start 'f the school year. yepperz, she caved 'n opened 'em anyhow. think they're'n some sort'a rotational thingy? some days't school, others 't home with their learnin' via computer.
anybody could've the virus 'n be totally asymptomatic - which to me's terrifyin'.

That is what they call the "hybrid model" group A school on one day, B the next so fewer people in the building at one time. Not sure how much good that will really do, though.

I wear my mask and social distance. I feel kind of stuck up for staying by myself so much.

So about six adults and fewer than ten kids from that exposure are quarantined, but there may be another one next week, who knows.

We only took off for today as they cleaned and determined who was actually exposed.

I would call to be sure, but they should let you know if you are not to go.

I texted a person who was able to let me know. I rode the bus (van) with those two students that go out of town.

This sort of thing must be expected under current circumstances. My wife, who is the Principal Education Officer for the City of Leicester (English Midlands) is dealing with this all the time at present - juggling school intakes as staff self-isolate.

I would think you would have gotten a text or call about the school being suspended. Guess this is the way things are going to be for quite awhile. I wonder if schools will close again and classes will be remote

I got a message, then contacted someone for more info. Our school only shut for today to start contact tracing and get remote materials ready for the students who had direct contact with this staff.

I think all schools should close. It's crazy to open the schools to just have to close them again over and over.

It will happen, just like snow days happen and other things. We so far only were closed today, and only at the elementary level.
