I Have An Answer About My Tooth

I had a dentist appointment on Friday, the dentist took Xrays and came to the conclusion that my nerve is infected. I am taking an antibiotic to try to get rid of the infection. She told me I will need a root canal and then a crown. That will be very expensive.
I have asked her if I can just try to get rid of the infection and then worry about the root canal in January when my new insurance year starts. I will have $1500 in dental care at that point. That might cover half of the work.
The only alternative is to have the tooth pulled. Since it is the tooth next to th eye tooth it would likely show if I smiled. I am not looking forward to it but I see no option but the expensive one. The dentist did not think that pulling it was a good option.

It costs a lot to take care of the teeth, but if pulling teeth doesn't seem too bad, you can wear dentures and save money.

Getting decent dentures is also very expensive.

No, I don't want dentures, they are not like real teeth or even crowns. I may not like spending $3000 but I can afford to do it.

That sounds very painful.
I just got a quote from a representative about a plan that offer$1000 per quarter for dental services, that sounded so good to me. Now I am wondering if there is one that will also include hearing aids, apparently I'll need them eventually.

@rebelann Nope but you have to realize that everything is more expensive in CT. I pay $69 each per month for Al's and my coverage and it is as good a deal as we can get especially since we need insurance that ill also work in Pennsylvania and Florida.

None of the plans that I have access to offer more than the $1500 and that costs me an additional $40 a month

Pulling your tooth is the fastest, cheapest route. But it's definitely a better option, to save your tooth. I agree, having a root canal and a crown is very expensive! One dentist told me this, then the tooth stopped bothering me. I refused to get the work done.

I figured if I can get it stable, I will wait but getting it done when its throbbing won't be any fun for sure.

Out of curiosity how much is it the whole procedure? More than $1500? That's white expensive. I had the same issue with my molar, but the dentist let me pay in installments.

I have dental insurance and a flexible spending plan with some left over that I must spend before November 15. Tomorrow I am getting the prep work for a crown. I am going to continue on this route and end up with partials both upper and lower, but the new crown comes first.

$1500 'd jest be a down payment fer such here'n these parts. i believe the last root canal/crown the hubs'd the need fer ('bout 20 yrs 'go - knockin' wood) cost o'er $4000. i shudder to think 'f the cost fer one now.
hopefully the antibiotics'll do the trick'n yer able to wait 'til january, hon.

My last root canal was $1300 but that was the negotiated rate. I had to pay $650 I think. Then the crown so I figure it could be $3000 total so I will get half paid but then I will have to pay for my cleanings all year.

@BelleStarr I hope so. An implant is so much stronger than a crown, but it is a long process.

I had a similiar situation, I had it pulled you could not see it when i smiled, but then same thing happened on other side, and they did pull it then put a crown, they said because it was the same tooth on both sides it would be hard to eat, so they pulled it.

I am not worried about the pain I had one before and it was fine but it takes a lot of time and I hate novocaine. The dentist I like for root canals is about half an hour away from my house.

Yes I know but I pay 15% tax so I get to keep a lot more of my earnings. And I could get it done tomorrow, when would your appointment be? This isn't an emergency.
