The battle of the Bulge, the struggle is real

Diabetes runs on both sides of my family. I have a cousin that was born a brittle diabetic. Life is rough for him. He couldn't have candy as a child and when he ate some at school, had to be taken to the hospital a few times.
I just have to watch it. I have gained 25 pounds off and on over the years. I have finally manged to keep it off for the last five years.
If I eat a piece of cake or have a candy bar sometimes I get nausea and get a headache. In the last few years I have pretty much cut sugar out of my life because its not worth the risk of going into diabetic shock.
It is really hard around the holidays because people practically shove food in your face. No matter how many times you tell them you can't have sugar.
I want to share some of my knowledge of weight management. Which I received a "weight management certification" from my local hospital. I took a course that was offered.
First drink more water. You can lose 10 pounds just from doing that because your body retains water when you are not getting enough. Another surprising thing is all you really need is 20 minutes of brisk walking 3 times a week to lose a couple pounds a week.
Diet is even more important. Eat three balanced meals a day. Each portion on your plate shouldn't be any larger than your fist. You want your plate to be colorful. Have some carrots or some kind of vegetable with your protein and starch.
My secret is green tea. I personally have noticed when I drink a cup before I exercise I seem to be able to keep the weight off better. Whats you tip? Thank you for stopping by.

I can totally relate. My father was a type 2 diabetic, and it could possibly run in his side of the family. I have also struggled to loose weight, too. I would do real well for a while, then gain it right back. I can't bring myself to give up sugar, but I have cut down by quite a bit. I try to eat "healthy", but that isn't always possible. At least, I am trying.
Because of my physical disabilities, Walking briskly isn't an option for me. However, I do go out daily and play pokemon Go, and I average 1.5 to 1.6 miles each day. I also try to remember to keep moving, but still. I think I'm getting there... I've lost some weight (according to the scale at Publix)

@DearAphrodite I don't prentend to be a health nut. In fact, the vast majority of my diet consists of freezer meals. My husband and I have found some healthier brands to try, so it may, or may not be helping. Due to my Cerbal Palsy, my energy levels fluxate on a daily or even hourly basis, so I can't use that as n indicator of weight gain or loss.

@kaylachan I think that feeling good is more important than your weight. I am a little bit of a health nut lol but I am lucky that my blood sugar is my main problem.

@Adie04 Not getting enough rest in my opinion is what causes most health problems. Of course people drink too much caffeine and eat to much sugar so that doesn't help with being able to rest.

I have always been very good about demanding getting enough sleep. I think that is why I look pretty good for my age. Good for you so many people let themselves be sleep deprived.
