The struggle 'tis real!

Out here'n the arid 'n drought ridden high plains 'ts 'come quite dangerous. Not jest the fire danger, the lack 'f foods fer wild critters, etc. - but static 'lectricity. Purty much thoughts 'f tendin' most anythin' outdoors 'tis a lesson'n physics. One myself'n the critters'd be most happy to do without. Mr. Whiskey's tail 'tis a testament 'f this reality.
Basic principles of electrostatics are introduced in order to explain how objects become charged and to describe the effect of those charges on other objects in the neighboring surroundings. Charging methods, electric field lines and the importance of ligh

We had a windy day on Wednesday, and I felt the static electricity when I petted the cats... they felt too.

@crazyhorseladycx The cats also did not appreciate, poor kitties, I wanted to show them that I love, but I transmitted static electricity.

@LadyDuck lol, one 'f the friendly ferals got me this morn. came windin' 'round my leg lookin' fer 'ffection. he went to get sympathy from the pup 'n they popped each other. none 'f the critters 'ppreciate such, but seem to take 't better when't comes 'from a fellow critter than a human. 't least here :)

Crossing my fingers you get some much-needed relief from the droubts. This year, the weather's been super crazy. Here in Florida, it's appeared normal, but other places were getting freezing conditions far to soon, not to mention wild fires out in the west. So, believe me.... I wish you nothing bu t the best of luck.

thanks, hon. we're 'xpectin' warmer'n drier'n normal conditions 'til 't least next spring, perhaps longer. most 'f the western states're the same. my pastures burnt back'n may. not by fire, but lack 'f moisture 'n triple digit heat that've been oft spring through summer. not 'xactly sure where daytona'd be, but parts 'f florida 're to be the same - warmer 'n drier this winter. not a good thingy :( so thanks 'n i wish the same fer all who're facin' this 'cross such 'xpansive lands.

Oh gosh - didn't think of that. We have no outdoor pets - the parakeets in here may have no idea about static electricity. I would think that could scare a horse (I love Mr. Whiskey's name!) - is that how it goes for him?

@crazyhorseladycx I've known how it goes with my own hair . . . but poor creatures that don't expect it. Thank goodness when these shockeroos stop! Ohhhhh, yah, that is not a good thing for Mr. Whiskey. I know what that's like for humans and I imagine that it would be worse for a horse that is much taller and heavier - and leggier.

@much2say one'd think's many years's they've been here, they'd be used to such. but since 't'd not be a 365 kinda thingy, they tend to ferget 's do i. no shockin' today, jest muddy ponies. hopefully their manes'll be dry 'nough tomorrow to get 'em all groomed yet 'gain. mr. whiskey did good with his rehab, that swagger jest adds to his horsonality :)

'tis a real thingy out'n these parts durin' these drought laden times. 'f course now such's not so - the moisture from ice fogs, snow 's stopped such momentarily anyhow. catches 'em off guard most oft, that static 'lectricity. poor mr. rocky got popped 'n i 'twas 'bout 2ft from him. poor fella. mr. whiskey suffered'n injury to his back when he 'twas a yearlin'. playin' out'n the snow with 'nother, slipped'n the ice 'neath. he walks with a bit 'f a swagger (like he's been drinkin', hence, mr. whiskey) like mr. john wayne when walkin'. 'tis a beautiful trot/lope/canter though.

Oh, Mr. Whiskey, and that lovely tail of his! Don’t even mention "charge" in his hearing, otherwise he’s likely to go right through the corral!. Fun thoughts!

pure static, bless 'em. the winds'd quit, perfectly calm out when i took this pic. all the horses tails ('n my hair, too) standin' out'n end. yes ma'am, very careful when i brush 'em all. ya can't e'en snuggle a nose 't the moment without both gettin' zapped.

@crazyhorseladycx Too bad there isn't something you can do to get rid of the static before you brush them.

@just4him i've tried e'erythin' i've got'n my toolbox fer such. whilst their hairs 're fully saturated (water, conditioner, etc) 'tis 'lright. but's soon 's such starts to dry, we both get popped. the task't hand still not completed. then, they're convinced i'm out to do 'em harm. their tails 're all so long (touch the ground) that the natural oils produced 're jest not 'nough. i can spritz 'em, get their bodies 'n manes tended without too many hiccups. so, they'll jest've unruly tails 'til this subsides.

That sounds just horrible... not just one possible problem to come from this lack of rain, but so many more. Is this normal for where you live or just this particular year??

'nfortunately we 'xperience such quite oft these days. we'd not yet fully recovered from an 8yr drought, which 'twas devastatin'. usually though there'd be 'nough humidity'n the air'n the early morns fer tendin' these tails without repercussions. such's not been so now fer weeks. i've'n 'ndoor, whole house humidifier that's been runnin' 24/7 jest tryin' to get the humidity to 25.
