October 11th - Day never to be forgotten

Unbeknownst to me (at the time), my daughter went into labor and delivered my first grandchild early evening of October 11th. Just my luck, one of the biggest moments in both our lives occurred while I was in the mountains - out of range of cellular service. Pictures of my granddaughter's debut came across my screen as we neared the bottom of the mountain and cell service was restored. I was elated to officially be a grandma and upset for letting my daughter down along with feelings of animosity towards my other half for "dragging" me into the mountains that day causing me to miss such an important time! The roller coaster of emotions mixed with the long drive brought upon heavy eyelids causing me to doze off in the passenger seat as my other half drove home.
Not sure how long I had been asleep before hearing "Oh no!", "Oh sh*t, oh sh*t!!!!" ....just as I open my eyes and sit up to see over the dash as the truck barely misses the corner of the guard rail on the opposite side of the road at the start of the bridge, bouncing (not so well) off the rocks as we travel down the side of the hill, catching air and launching 20 feet before landing hard, finally coming to a stop. I had my seat belt on, my other half did not; although, thankfully he was not thrown from vehicle because he held on tight to the steering wheel. Our dogs had been thrown into the front seat from the back with the force of the crash - the hood to another truck, which was in the bed slammed through the rear window, barely missing the dogs and our heads- stopped only by the headrests on our seats! We were lucky to be alive! Really lucky- considering there was another drop off, a much bigger one, just a few feet from where we landed (I didn't find this out until the next morning when we came back to scene).
The truck, trailer and car we just bought all were totaled! Our life had just changed drastically and will be extremely tough until we work through our shortcomings- all because of a large bucket in the road and a deer!
Definitely a day never to be forgotten - Grateful we still have our lives and the blessing of a new life - my granddaughter, Alanii.
