Portuguese Lunch gone Sour

Today I had the most delicious yet uncomfortable lunch in my life. I had it with my housemate, J and my colleague, M. We had it at a popular Portuguese restaurant in our locality.
The food was absolutely perfect bursting with flavours but it became really hard to swallow. Because my friend M started talking about being upset J and I are quitting work. Instead of being supportive of our decision she started talking about how we were weak and emotionally too sensitive. She also started insulting the past hospitals we worked in saying it may be really small and unchallenging that we are not hardened and seasoned. J and I sat there mortified and shaking in anger but we contained ourselves. Longest lunch ever.

The picture of the dish looks really tasty. Sometimes what someone says can make you lose your appetite. Happened to me more than once.

Yeah but I can’t believe someone would actually be so insensitive to do that. Does she not even realise she’s insulting us face to face? If I was more honest with how I felt, I would’ve walked out.

Never spoil food with emotional burden so you can enjoy the taste of the grace.

@flapiz that's right. It's best not to mix one set of friends with another. But even with same group you still encounter annoying people who thinks she's the best.

@flapiz good for you. It is useless to talk back because I am pretty sure she is as close minded one like a closet locked forever. ahaha
maybe she envies you and your friend because you have the freedom to do what you want and chase your dreams

Sorry that your delicious lunch was ruined by the actions of your friend.
If you don't mind me asking, how come you are quitting your job? Are you staying in the UK, or will you be heading back to the Philippines? As I've said many times before, I think you should come to the US!

Hi Jeff it’s been a while. I am quitting the job for 3 reasons. Major reason really is the toxic work culture. People in my workplace can really be demeaning. Second is the high cost of living and in the area I’m working. Half of my salary goes to rent and utilities. Lastly, better opportunity. I found a high paying job in the Island of Guernsey. I love the sea so pay-wise and environment wise I’m moving.

@moffittjc Guernsey is part of the British Channels. It’s close to France and has a continental lifestyle.
I haven’t been posting a lot on Facebook. Well not like my usual. I’ve also become very busy. It’s quite hectic at work and I’m struggling to have a work life balance.

@flapiz I am happy to hear that you found a better opportunity! I hope everything works out well for you. You deserve to work in an environment free from a toxic culture. Where is Guernsey?
And yes, it's been quite a while. I didn't realize you were still on myLot. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule, I don't have much time to be on here as much any more. I still keep up with your Facebook posts though!

@sunrisefan The food was really great although it kept lodging on my throat because of the awkward conversation.

@flapiz I'm sure you did enjoy your food - except for that distraction while you were having lunch.

So sorry to know that. Good food is enjoyable only if we have good company and pleasant talks around it.
I thought that you would have started with your new job by now.

It sounds like she has a problem and does not know how to handle people bettering themselves and moving on.

Yeah I totally understand If she’s having separation anxieties but hey it’s my life I’m an adult. I have the right to quit from a job if I’m unhappy in the workplace. What does she expect, I stay unhappy just to save face?

If I like the food there usually aren’t any left overs. I devoured it.

What about the job you recently got? Is it the same? I am so sorry that things didn't go right with that job, I always say no good paying will keep me in a hostile and toxic work environment. So sorry that lunch wasn't pleasant at all.
