I was so hoping that when we moved to Manitoba, which is a lot further north than I had ever lived before, I would see them. I was so hoping to see the real thing while living in Manitoba. I have seen videos but I really wanted to see them myself!! I waited 2 years before having to move back here but sadly... nothing. And just in case you were wondering, they have had Northern Lights in Winnipeg... just before I arrived apparently. I should also point out that we were only about 20 minutes away from the city so I was hoping... even once to see them.
The sky was pretty incredible however... black, black skies with the brightest stars you could imagine! Have you ever been lucky enough to see the Northern Lights?
A short timelapse of the Northern Lights in Winnipeg Manitoba. Shot on the evening of May 3rd. Filmed with my Canon t3i.

Oh, I bet you wanted to hit him for not waking you up!!! LOL I know that I would have. I'm almost tempted to tell hubby I want to go to Churchill for a holiday just so that I can see them. Not sure how often they happen though and I hate the cold ;)

@Hate2Iron I was really annoyed! The trouble with a trip is that it could be cloudy!

Yes. We lived on Lake Erie for 7 years and saw the Northern Lights across the lake one evening. Spectacular!

Well, I will keep my fingers crossed for you too. Not sure if they have ever come this far south where we are now. I should look that up while I'm thinking about it!!

Sounds very interesting. How does it get there in winter? Where did you move from? Thank you for that. It is really really cool.

It just happens. I'm sure that there is a detailed science behind it. All I know is that it is magical!!

'tis a most euphoric sight to 'hold. yepperz, lived'n alaska back'n the late 70's. 'twas quite frequent back then, most prominent when the temps dipped 'wards the -40's durin' winter. the crew'n i'd crawl 'p the snowbanks with lots 'f sub-zero gear 'n thermoses 'f hot chocolate. sprawl out'n the roof tops 'f our 'partment buildin' 'n watch 'em fer what seemed hours.
wish i'd still pics 'f such, but fear my ex somehow managed to snag those.

I thought there were only a couple of times a year when you could see them. Don't give up hope. I'm sure you'll see them.
I saw them once when I was a child. Conditions were perfect for them here, which is an unusual phenomenon this far south of where they frequent.
