Enough of these “baby-fied” baby songs. It’s time for ten of my favorites! Before I head off to look at the leaves I’ll give you another song with “baby” in the title that ranks in the top ten. To nobody’s surprise (given that I’ve used this one before), here’s the opening tune.
#10: Baby’s Callin’ Me Home - Steve Miller Band
And you’re probably thinking as you listen to it, “Hey, that doesn’t sound like Steve Miller!” That’s because it’s not. That’s the “other” guitarist (there were two in the Steve Miller Band on their first two albums) singing lead.
That guy left the Steve Miller Band after the first two albums and struck out on his own career. You may have heard of him? Boz Scaggs?
Yep, Boz played guitar in the early days of the Steve Miller Band, and even sang lead on four songs. This is the prettiest of the four, and certainly ample evidence that the “blue-eyed soul” that turned Scaggs into a million-seller in the mid-70s was no fluke.
Enjoy this lovely tune one more time. Or for the first time. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to get it into a few more countdowns.
