How to stop viewing Whatsapp status

For those using WhatsApp, you know about the status feature where people post their pictures and videos for us to view. It is great to view them but I realized lately that it takes up much of my data bundles which I could have used for something more productive. So I am trying to stop viewing them. One way would be to exercise some self control. But that is so hard for me, I get tempted to watch them when I am bored and idle. And I try to stay active but there are just those times that I don't feel like doing anything but watch the status. Another way is to deny contact permissions in whatsapp settings. This is what I have opted for right now. Without Whatsapp viewing the contacts, I will not be able to get status notifications and get tempted to view them. The disadvatage in this is that contacts are not being read by whatsapp and so I will have to go to my phone contacts when I want to text anyone through whatsapp. It is a long process but I am willing to take it in order to save my data bundles, they are so expensive to buy. I will start being comfortable with viewing Whatsapp status when I buy a better method such as WiFi.
