2020, The Year Education Went Up in the Air

Since the kids went back to school Mid-September for Little Misses School, and Early October, and what do you know, power goes down in September and October, nearly three days in September with no classes in our area, due to no power, and thankfully this time only a day so not as bad. Still maybe you could let our kids get their education whether it be distance learning, hybrid learning, or whatever you want to call it, so maybe someday who knows what they are doing could take over lol. I understand the need for Hybrid learning, online schooling but these shut offs are taking away even that from the kids, in order to log on to Google classrooms or whatever it is the particular school uses there needs to be power so the kids can get online and do whatever it is they need to do.

Time changes everything whether we like or not. What it takes is a long-range plan and the willingness or cooperation of everyone. But nobody could disprove that experience is the best teacher.

I know that, but education is important, not something to be tossed to the wayside...l

@Michellekidwell That's for others who can afford it but what about those who can't?

I’m all for that, but there are cases when they shouldn’t be with their parents, extreme abuse and neglect

As much as the internet is helpful, and allows us to do a lot, if home schooling is going to be expected/enforced, parents and teachers would need to go old school. Homeschooling existed before the internet became a thing. So, if students are supposed to continue their education, maybe go back to snail mail. Make kids read write and use actual books. Then when the power goes out, students can still learn. because we still have a lot of battery-powered lighting options.

@Michellekidwell I know. All schools are electronic nowadays. Everything from books, to classes and so on. As much as I love the internet, it makes society lazy.

@kaylachan Yeah, we have a great collection of books here, for Little Miss so she has physical books to read, everything from Twilight to Harry Potter, if she outgrow the books or looses interest we sell them and get books more suited to her interests and reading level...

Yes, I know that, I was in my twenties before the internet was out lol, but they keep cancelling school all together. I have plenty of books here, for when I have my niece, and of course my own books, schools are all electric up here, though at this rate Solar maybe something they need to look into..l

I hope the children's education does not suffer from all the hybrid, home schooling and power outages.

The Power Outages have me concerned because all models of schooling are cancelled then...

There are government officials in my country who said mastery of information technology is the most important part of education today. We don't have to keep math in our brains, as long as we hold the smartphone everything is stored there. So it seems that all kinds of lessons don't matter anymore.

Unfortunately that’s very true, although I have showed “Little Miss” how we did lessons in the 80’s and 90’s lol...l
