The Mother Hen

It is a rare moment that our Lord has compared our God to a mother hen. Thus it speaks volumes about God's maternal loving care.
The Gospel today, from Luke 13: 31-35, verse 34 states 'Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often have I longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you refused!
Great is a mother's faithfulness. Monica never gave up on her erring Augustine.
Yet in Isaiah, our God also said that even if a mother forgets her children, He will never forget us.
That is how great is our God's love for us. He yearns our love, too.

I have not remembered that verse before.
Usually, I see the good shepherd, and his sheep, but a mother hen, is a good analogy too.
So, we shouldn't be bad eggs for him, nor too chicken of him either.
We must feel loved, and know that he deeply cares for us all too.

Interesting our Lord being radical today in the Gospel. Our Lord Jesus called Herod a fox. You remember that?

@eileenleyva No, I do not remember that.
I do remember this perhaps more well-known verse though:
Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
Matthew, chapter 8, verse 20.

@innertalks I love that verse. And I suppose the Son of Man also never had a bed, and the only wood He stretched His Back on was the cross.
Here's the Gospel today.
Luke 13:31-35
31 Just at this time some Pharisees came up. 'Go away,' they said. 'Leave this place, because Herod means to kill you.'
32 He replied, 'You may go and give that fox this message: Look! Today and tomorrow I drive out devils and heal, and on the third day I attain my end.
33 But for today and tomorrow and the next day I must go on, since it would not be right for a prophet to die outside Jerusalem.
34 'Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often have I longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you refused!
35 Look! Your house will be left to you. Yes, I promise you, you shall not see me till the time comes when you are saying: Blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord!'

Yeah sometimes it is hard to understand His love for us. Sometimes we feel it the opposite but we sometimes realise that it is part of his everlasting love and concern for us that we experience things from Him that we do not expect to come.

Our God created us in His Image and Likeness. Our God loved us and wanted our company. He gave us free will and intellect, unlike all the rest of His creation. Adam and Eve allowed themselves to be tempted by the serpent, thus we were banished from paradise. Yet, our God made provisions so we can come back and be with Him again in paradise. God even send His only Beloved Son to retrieve us.

@rsa101 With freedom, man has been rather reckless. With power, man has been abusive. Thus the stories of wars.
God though has planned every detail of Salvation History. All we have to do is to study it. The Old Testament is the foreshadowing of the New Testament. The New Testament is the fulfillment of the Old Testament.
For example: Abraham brought his son Isaac atop a mountain for sacrifice, as our God instructed. But the sacrifice didn't push through. It was fulfilled when our Lord was crucified on the cross.
