This is me purely curious, I am living with my husband, 11 years old daughter and 2 kids under 5. Normally i spend around $ 5 for meals. I cook everyday except for breakfast. So $ 5 for lunch and dinner (doesn't include rice). Is that cheap or expensive?
How much money do you spend for meals for a day?

I think that you are doing good. That’s a reasonable amount.

Actually, I don't know, it is really my mom who does the budgeting.
But since its pandemic, we don't allow her to go to the market so I go instead, I do grocery good for two weeks, and I always spend $60 and that's it. No more no less.

$60, is that include everything? The main ingredient, the spice, the vegetables? How about shampoo, soap, toothpaste, something doesn't relate to cook?

That is really not too bad for cost. We usually have sandwiches and a fruit for lunch. Breakfast consists of either a breakfast cereal or a muffin. I try to bake a batch of muffins so we can keep them on hand.
The sandwich meat is about $6 a pound and it lasts us for almost 5 days.

We (Indonesian) eat heavy food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
For breakfast : lontong (made from rice) or fried rice or fried noodles
Lunch : rice with protein and veggies
Dinner : same as lunch.
Cereal and muffin are snack so does sandwich.

Cost for a meal can vary from country to country, and even places within that country. Then there are price fluctuations. We use onions a lot in our diet, and as their prices have increased a lot these days, our costs go up for the dishes having onions.
Yet if somethings get cheaper, we could have lesser costs.

@Cheyee I suggest you compare one International Dish that is available in your country and then compare the same with the rates of other countries. This will help you.
For example - One Medium-Sized Domino's Chicken Toppings Pizza! Ask the rates to other myLotters and you will surely get the answer as you can compare the rate with your pizza

We spend less than that because we have our own veggies in the garden. Let's say, I spend $2 for pork or meat and good for a whole day. What is left over for lunch is good for dinner :)

@Cheyee Philippines. In our place, we need to have our own garden to grow or sometimes we get it from our neighbor. Sharing is good

@Cheyee pork is expensive, too. 1kl is like $5 or more but we can buy for 1/4 kl, just to make our viand even more tastier.
