Friday! AND an extra hour this weekend! I saw a meme on Facebook that said, “I’m not setting my clock back. I don’t want an extra hour of 2020.” But how about a great song with “baby” in the title? I can do that, and here it is!
#2: Blues for Baby and Me - Elton John
Oh, what a shock. Elton John in one of my countdowns.
From the era of Elton’s transition from star to superstar, and from the album that produced his first #1 single (which was “Crocodile Rock,” if you’re interested....or even if you’re not interested!), this wasn’t a hit...but that sure doesn’t stop it from being a great song.
This was also a bit of a departure for EJ: I once told my mom (who thought every rock song was “oooh, baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby” [no, that was a Smokey Robinson song, and that was just “Ooh, Baby Baby”]) that baby was by and large not in Elton’s lyrical vocabulary. Kudos to Bernie Taupin for eschewing the “stereotypical” filler word.
And for co-writing this gem.

And I can’t forget that trip to the west:

At least you’ve heard of Elton John. That’s major progress.
