I didn’t sleep very well last night

My husband drove down to Raymour & Flannigan and picked up the Mattress we bought. It was pouring rain so I was thankful the bag it came in from the factory didn’t have any holes.
We bought one that is more firm then the one I used to have. I thought that would be better on my shoulder and his hip which are always hurting us badly.
I didn’t sleep well on the new bed at all. I got a sore neck in the middle of the night.
At 2am my step/dog started barking downstairs. Luckily it only lasted a few minutes because the night before it happened 3 times during the night.
My husband usually gets up at 5am and goes to work. I never fall back asleep until about a half hour after he leaves.
Today he didn’t leave until 6 and I have to get up at 7 so I knew there was no going back to sleep so I just got up too.
I woke up to the first snow we have had this season. I’m not thrilled but I’ll try not to grumble to much about it as I know snow is something we have to deal with in Northern Pa.
Photo is of the new bed. I’m waiting on a new box spring cover from Walmart’s sampling program. I was hoping it would arrive yesterday but it’s delayed.
We are giving my grandparents box spring and my old mattress to my nephew. I think my husband is bringing his box spring over tonight or Sunday.

I'll trade places with you. I'd love to be back up in PA right now. I was born and raised in Bucks County, and we had a vacation home in Potter County.
I wonder the same thing as @CarolDM when it comes to your neck.

@Chellezhere those two counties sound familiar but I have never been there I don’t think. Where do you live now? Somewhere warmer in assuming.
I think I figured out the problem. The bed wasn’t pushed up towards the head board enough so my pillow was slipping down in between. I fixed that after I woke up and realized that could be the problem so hopefully tonight I will sleep much better.
My husband and stepson got up at 5 to go hunting and are very noisy and a friend met them here before going so I didn’t sleep for about an hour during that. Once I fell back asleep I slept until 9 though and am treating myself to coffee. I will enjoy this day at home until we have to go trick or treating later.

@shaggin Bucks County is where Washington crossed the Delaware. Potter County borders New York.
I'm glad you fix your neck issue and have had some coffee.

@Chellezhere when you lived in Potter county I was a few counties directly to the east of you. I’m very close to the border of Ny.

Mattresses are so hard to pick. We went to the store where you lay down in your sleeping position and the mattress "scientifically" says what number you are and what kind of mattress would suit you. But I don't get it because we're often not in the same position on all night. I think I like sleeping on our frumpy couch the best .

@much2say that’s a good point most the night i lay on my stomach or my left side but when I went to try a sleep number bed once I think I just laid on my back for the test.
My couch is so comfy but half way through the night I would wake up aching from being in the same position the whole time.

@shaggin Oh gosh and mattresses can be so expensive too - just how do we pick the absolute right now. Sometimes I wonder if you have to break it in - like you would with certain shoes. I think I like the couch because it covers me up more - not completely "open" like a mattress.

New beds can take some getting used to. If you woke up to snow, that could play a role in it. The weather didn't drop much, but I still had to take a pain pill a couple of hours ago, because walking around the house was far too painful.

@kaylachan aww I’m sorry to hear you had to take a pain pill. What is the cause of your pain? My husband has a bone disease and arthritis. A bad hip runs in his moms side of the family which is completely unrelated to the bone disease or arthritis. Poor guy suffers a lot.

@shaggin I have arthritis, too. But sometimes its random, because cerbal palsy and spastic stiff muscles can cause pain, too. Today it was the later.

'tis a tricky thingy, buyin' mattresses. ya might need to get'cha one 'f those cushions they've now to put o'er such, make 't not quite so stiff. walmart's a samplin' program?? this i didn't know, lol.
congrats'n yer first snow! i've 'd 2 thus far 'n such's not our norm. kinda 'nfair'n a childish sort'a way - folks'n yer neck 'f the woods not yet 'xperiencin' the deep freeze 'til now.

@crazyhorseladycx my husband mentioned that we could get one of those mattress topper things. He said his parents have them and they are really comfortable. We just spent over $600 on this I don’t want to shell out any more to make it comfortable so I think I will lump it and hope I get used to it.
Yeah I think that way to when it comes to water. Even in a drought my well doesn’t run dry and I’ve never heard of anyone not having town water in a drought etc. makes me feel bad for those in other countries who have to go without water. Unfair how unbalanced the earth is that way.

@shaggin i hear ya'n the 'xpense, but such might be necessary. i take't there 'twas not a guarantee 'f comfort fer this mattress? i know some places 'round here 've such. dunno what they do with those returned?? 'tis illegal to sell a used mattress here'n new mexico.
here'n most 'f the western states we rely'n the aquifers, which've been sorely depleted by actions 'cross said states. minin'/oil/gas/frackin' wastes billions 'f gallons daily :( i 'gree, though much 'tis human caused. folks'll not change their ways though 'til forced to do such. 'mazin' how lil self control many've.

@crazyhorseladycx no guarantee for that that I know of but if it gets dimples a or dents there is a 5 year warranty I think he said which is awesome because one I got years ago did not come with that. Maybe it’s applied to mattresses of higher cost or something since this was double the price of my old one.
Interesting you can’t sell a mattress there. I would never want a used one. I have always had a mattress protector on mine so it looks like new even though it doesn’t feel it. I know some places like the Salvation Army used to recover the mattresses and give them to people in need.
I worry so much about all the water being wasted due from fracking.

Get a heated mattress pad, they are great for all those body aches and pains. I hope your body gets used to the new mattress. Oh, and I love your rug.

@GardenGerty that would be amazing for me to have a heated mattress pad as I am always cold. My husband would hate it though.
Thank you it’s one of the few things I like in this house that was here when I moved in.
I’m hopeful in a few days my body will adjust.

@Tina30219 I’ve seen ones that plug into the car charger that would be awesome on cold days when I’m driving. I go out as little as possible when it’s cold.

@shaggin My mom was going to get me one of those heated blankets that you can use while sitting in your chair or on the couch at night but I have my Snuggie so don’t really need it

I hope you will get used to the new mattress. A mattress is on my to do list to get as well, but I think it is gonna be down the road a piece. Hopefully I can get one within a year though.

@snowy22315 I would have kept using this mattress if it wasn’t for him limping around in agony with his hip. He could barely walk. The mattress was about 15 years old. I want it out of my room. It was raining Thursday night, Friday he didn’t get home from hunting until 7 then took a shower and was exhausted. Today he is hunting and with Halloween idk if we will get it out tonight either. Having ocd this is driving me nuts!

@Tina30219 last night was a little better. I woke up in the night and saw my pillow had slid up between the headboard and bed. I couldn’t understand why until I woke up today and saw the bed needed to be pushed up against the headboard which I did. That should help.

@shaggin Glad it was better last night. Yeah as long as the headboard is pushed up your pillow can’t get in there.

@Courtlynn that’s what I figure too. My shoulder still hurts but the rest of my body isn’t aching in the night like it was. I am having a heck of a time getting used to sleeping on it though.

@CarolDM my husband mentioned tonight that when he lays on his side in the new bed he doesn’t sink down in so his head is tilted instead of being level. He thinks he needs a thicker pillow now. So maybe my feather pillow being old wearing out isn’t going to work with this new bed. I’m not even sure where to buy a new pillow. I get headaches if I use different pillows then I am used to.
