Cyber Bullies Are Everywhere

I was on another site earlier today. Reading conversations from many countries. A lady got upset over words said by another member. Very sad. It is so unfair.
There were no apologies. It just kept going on and on. And for what reason? The other person wanted control. Period. I finally signed off for today.
Being online gives you a disadvantage. You cannot see the actual person you are conversing with. And they can say whatever they want from behind their computer.
Who knows who they really are? Well, you don't. That is the chance we all take by writing online.
But we can pick and choose who we talk to and respond to. And we also can choose not to talk or respond. That is the best part. We can walk away.
Words hurt. Even online. That is what the cyber bully knows. And many can get pushed into a corner very easily. Sadly there are these types of people everywhere.
I just want to ask everyone to be nice. Don't get me wrong, most of you on this site are kind. Most of you.
If you can't say something kind to someone, move along. There are many other posts you can comment on.
Have a good evening everyone and please be nice.

I couldn't agree more with you Carol. Nowadays people believe they have the right to insult others based on their beliefs and what they believe is right or wrong. It happens with public people they get so criticized even for the smallest thing they do.

@CarolDM it isn't that you care too much Carol, you're just a human being who always respects others, and you treat people as you wished to be treated. It is the same with me. I will never judge and spread hate on social media towards anyone.

You are right about that! It costs nothing to be nice, but on the other hand you never really know what someone will take the wrong way unless you are outright malicious.

Without knowing the nature of the conversation it is hard to fully comment. I will only say this, and that is that we are living in a time where almost everyone is offended by something, and so what one calls truth another person calls bullying. We are constantly redefining words. Racism means something now entirely different from what it meant during the Jim Crowe era for example.
I think the problem is more that people have become wissified. People need to toughen up and not let everything offend them.

Cyberbullying in general is unacceptable. Nobody has that right. Your last statement has nothing to do with what I am saying Jim. Come on, don't do that. "Wissified"? Really? Not talking about being offended. Not talking about racism. Read my post. Cyberbullying goes after the person on a personal level. Hurting other people is not acceptable.

@porwest Yes it is going on, I have seen it first hand. Trust me, it happens in silence. This is not about making kids afraid. Nowhere in this post did I mention kids.
This is real and has been going on for a very long time. Since the internet started. Please do not use words like weak Jim, be a victim like I am talking about, then come back and tell me about being weak. It is not a good thing, evil exists in the world.
"You become stronger when this sort of thing happens, unless you have been taught to be weak".
If you survive perhaps that is the case. Still not the issue.
"Nowadays the word "bullying" means something entirely different than it used to."
Yes it does mean something different. Cyber bullying due to the invention of the internet.

I have meet people who tend to be feeling genius online... Since I enjoy writing poetry, there are people who critic my works and me as well as straight to the point like 'Your poetry is nonsense', 'Your grammar is very wrong'... But there are people like that online, most people are still friendly and first we must accept that we cannot avoid people like that so we must prepare ourself already in order for us not easily hurt ... If conversation seems going bad them we must just leave the person behind...

@CarolDM I agree with you and understand since we are not the same people. I mean some people are as strong as wall while some as breakable as mirror...

I used to be the victim of a cyberbully. At first, it didn't start out that way, but over time that's what it slowly became. Finally, I just walked away and don't visit that message board anymore. I feel a lot a bit better for it as a result.

When visiting a message board started giving me anxiety, I knew it was time to walk away. I've been back once, to make sure my account was in fact, gone. And, it was. I wasn't to surprised or heartbroken over it, honestly. @CarolDM

@CarolDM Many people are braver as they are hidden behind the computer screen. Tell her not to let it bother her. That other person is the one with a problem.

@wolfgirl569 I told her over and over. She is better but a lot of emotional damage. People have no idea until it happens to them.

There are some people who do not realize that words can be harmful to the person that relay their messages to.
Best advice is not allow negative thoughts to harm you. I know it is easier said than done.

I enjoy a good argument. But bullying is another matter. I try to remind myself that most bullies were bullied, and have a deep sense of insecurity behind the facade. You even see that kind of thing among politicians sometimes.

If you are too sensitive you are at a great loss. I was once a victim of it. I ignored it. I never reacted to it. And they stopped.
