My first story and my first poem

When I was 8 I wrote my first short story. I was in the second grade, and I was able to write, but I wasn't able to spell all of the words that I wanted to use. I asked my mother to spell the words I hadn't learned. Afterwards I ran back to the living room in order to continue the story. Five minutes later I needed help again, and I had to find my mother again and ask her about another word.
I really wanted to write the story. I knew exactly how I wanted to write the story, but I was only 8 years old and spelling and punctuation weren't easy.
Maybe you are wondering what kind of story it was. I don't remember the details, but it was a story about two children who were in a room. They locked the door, but there was something wrong with the lock, and they couldn't unlock the door. They were trapped inside the room. Eventually they managed to leave the room, so the story had a happy ending.
I wrote my first poem when I was 11. I had a cat poster in my room, and my first poem was a poem about those cats. I wrote that they seemed lonely and I wrote that they might jump out of the poster one day. Obviously I knew that they weren't going to leave the poster, but it was a nice daydream

The story your mother-in-law wrote reminds me of a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is called "The fir tree" In that story a Christmas tree thinks about the past when it was still in the forest.

@LadyDuck Yes, "The fir tree" is not one of most popular or famous stories. I grew up in the city where Hans Christian Andersen was born, and we learned a lot about him in elementary school. My brother had a very large book that contained every fairy tale he has ever written, and many of the titles were completely unknown to be.

@Porcospino What a nice story, I am sure that my MiL had not read the story, she was only 7 years old when she wrote that story, in Italy we only had the most famous children stories available.

@Porcospino This was a lovely read. I love hearing / reading about memories. Thank you so much for sharing! I used to write a lot when I was a child too. Stories and poems and then in my teenager years and early twenties I'd write lyrics. I haven't written anything in a long time as I'm hardly ever motivated but I do have a passion for it. I think writing is a nice way to create anything and express what we are thinking / feeling.

Thank you I can relate to the things you wrote. I also have a passion for writing. I love to create stories, and sometimes I forget almost everything around me when I am writing. I used to write poems, but I haven't written new poems for a long time. Now I mostly write short stories.

@VivaLaDani13 No, I haven't shared any of my stories here. My poems and stories are written in Danish. When I write fiction I only use my own language

@Porcospino You're so very welcome!
That is wonderful! I can tell just from your words alone how much you love writing. I think it's a great thing. Have you shared any of your stories here on MyLot? I'd love to read if you have, though I understand too if it's personal.

I don't think I have read any of your stories here, but it is a great idea to share them here. I still write stories and I have a collection of them, but I didn't share them here because they are all written in Danish. What type of stories do you write?

@JudyEv I love stories with a twist at the end. Most of my stories are written that way.

@Porcospino They are mostly just simple things, often with a twist at the end if I can work it in.

Writing is no problem. Just write and leave the correction by the editor.

@Nakitakona I have about 10 short stories that I finished and a number of stories that I am still working on. I hope to finish them all one day. None of them have been published so far, but it is one of my goals

I remember Jumanji, my brother and I watched it many years ago I had fun writing my very first story. I don't remember how I got the idea, but I really wanted to write it down.

I think it was a horror story, but it had a happy ending The children were scared when they couldn't leave the room. They were not allowed to lock the door, but they did it anyway and they panicked when they couldn't leave the room.

No, I don't have the poem, but I remember parts of it. I wish I had kept my first story and my first poem.

For an 8 year old, that has a pretty interesting plot.

I wish I still had the story. It could be fun to read it again, but at least I remember the plot.
