Vernacular architecture is architecture characterised by the use of local materials and knowledge, usually without the supervision of professional architects (wikipedia).
In my country there is a lot of examples for vernacular architecture. Every region has its own iconic type of house. One of my favorite is Rumah Gadang from West Sumatra (the picture). Each element of Rumah Gadang has its own symbolic meaning as Minangkabau is rich of culture. Fun fact, this house is built without a single nail. It really amazes me. And this is why vernacular architecture is one of the best thing in architecture. It will blow your modern mind.
I'm curious what vernacular architecture looks like in other countries. I'd be really glad if you tell/show me the vernacular architecture in your place.
