Our border opens up to the states east of Western Australia

My state, Western Australia (WA), has just opened up its border to the states to the east of us. We have been virtually virus-free for some time with our only cases being in people coming in by air from overseas. Naturally, those with families now being reunited are thrilled that the border is now open. Those from New South Wales and Victoria, the states which have had recent cases, are expected to self-isolate. However, it remains to be seen if we will now see a recurrence of the virus. Today, there was news of new cases in South Australia and we all know it doesn’t take much for the virus to spread - and spread rapidly. I guess if that happens, and we see new cases in WA, they’ll go back to locking down the state again. At this stage, I think everyone is keeping their fingers crossed. Photo is of some wheat silos in Tumby Bay, South Australia.

Good luck July, we reopened for summer and all were excited and people started to travel to other European countries and look now at Europe! Worse than in spring.

@JudyEv I hope you can, this is what our authorities said at the beginning of September "our numbers are very low, less than 40"... then 100, then 500 and then again thousands.

Mississippi has had a very high spike this month too. sadly because many won’t social distance or wear masks.

Our numbers are very low and anyone coming in from overseas has to quarantine. Hopefully any small outbreaks we'll be able to handle.

Let's hope that you don't get an upsurge of the virus. We are on our second lockdown now in the attempt to contain it. Great pic.

It is a bit of a gamble opening the border but it can't remain shut forever. Our numbers are very low so hopefully if the virus does recur, we'll be able to control it.

@crazyhorseladycx I can't see the virus just going away or burning itself out. It seems too strong for that. I really fear for your country.

Thanks. For West Australians, we have seen that the restrictions work, so hopefully if we go back into lockdown, people will comply. People are fined heavily if they don't and one or two have even been jailed.

@JudyEv our governor just gave words for another almost complete lockdown again. She's closed inside dining and certain businesses and schools which were closing on their own mostly anyway.

@MarshaMusselman Sometimes it must seem like it's never going to end. But locking down seems the only way to stop it until we get a vaccine.

@JudyEv So are they opening the borders earlier than they should because they need to make sure there are no more cases. or less? I hope all works out for you and you are not in danger.

To me, it seems about the right time to open the borders as we have virtually no new cases. We can't stay locked up forever or all the businesses will fail which wouldn't be a good thing either. If we suddenly get a lot of new cases, I'm sure they will bring in the restrictions again.

We keep hearing about the high numbers in the US. It's just a shame it's been turned into a political 'game'. That should never have happened. Our state is proof that lockdown and restrictions work if people abide by them.
