Starting a saltwater tank

Ok guys so I want to start my first saltwater tank. I have a 140 gallon tank, what are the absolute things that I need to get started? does it matter on what kind of filter and lighting etc. Let me know your opinions. I should let you know I have a 500 dollar limit.. I've done some googling but wondering if anyone has ever had saltwater fish?
