I look at things this way: We can push against the tide of technology, but it is futile. The borg (Star Trek) were right when they said that "Resistance is futile" in that respect. But, resistance to abuse is never futile. It's scary to think that the system we built is quickly becoming obsolete. It's even scarier to think about what might come after it. But, the more we collectively push back on the wrong aspects (like keeping the system as it is), the more we open ourselves up to the abuse of forthcoming technology. It's like using a thimble to drain the water from a sinking ship, instead of running for the lifeboat. It's sink or swim. Head for the lifeboat, my friends. Understand and accept the wave of technology, and focus on protecting human rights and freedoms as it comes.
