Confused about Xenu (Scientology Legend)

Scientology's a religion. People hear that, and think, 'Then it must have "a god," right?'
And you hear about Xenu. And ... I don't know, maybe you think 'Oh, just like the Christians' God or The Flying Spaghetti-Monster,' and just go on with your day. Or maybe you think 'Oh, like Buddha (not necessarily a Creator, but more like a Big Influence).'
But I learned a little bit about him ... he's said to have IMPRISONED millions of Thetans/spirits on Earth (dumping their living bodies in Earth's volcanoes, capturing the Thetans and subjecting them to harsh memory-engraving scenes & unleashing them into humans' psyches).
At first I thought, 'Wait, so Thetans are EVIL spirits in us who want to FIGHT Xenu?' But then I found out that Xenu wasn't getting rid of them because they're EVIL, he did it because HE is ... well, he had to deal with 'overpopulation' (like Thanos felt he had to).
Maybe this is why Scientologists a) aren't allowed to LEARN about Xenu until they 'graduate to Operating Thetan 3' (i.e. buy $350,000+ of Scientology-literature & -"education") & b) NONE of the Scientologists admit 'belief in Xenu' to non-Scientologists

@Fa_Maverick But Leah Remini (& co.)'s big problem with Scientology is that--for people with problems or -with children--there is NOTHING more to the world until their- and their children's-problems are taken care of!
(Scientology's Church's usual policy about problems--based on L.R.H.'s belief that 'all the problems in the world are "things that people imagine" (psychosomatic illnesses)'--is 'detachment & disconnection ... your kid's sick & needs loving attention? Disavow them! Pretend you have nothing to do with them! Better to cut off the arm and let the flames destroy it than -to waste energy "healing it for future use!"'
(And Scientology's Church would deny such a description of their policies ... that's just 'a general summary' I gather from Leah Remini's A&E docu-series https://www.aetv.com/shows/leah-remini-scientology-and-the-aftermath where they do allegedly-quote some alleged policies like that ... allegedly ...)
