Is phonetic symbol is really helpful?

Some of the teachers nowadays are teaching students how to pronounce a word using phonics. They said that it is easy since they're doing it on every syllable which makes the student learn the word easier than the other ways. For me, it is really helpful because that is how I learned how to pronounce English words when I was a kid.

I'm sure that the International Phonetics characters are very useful for language students, especially in English which has so many anomalies in spelling and pronunciation.

I think that would be helpful and easier way for the students to learn. I had a student ,i said She and when it's her turn she pronounced it Si.

@rhuenz It is quite common not to be able to pronounce the 'sh' sound and to replace it with 's'. I don't think that phonetic writing would have helped much here.

I don't know. Never tried it. I learned through song and story. But I think people won't make it if it's not useful

Of course it is helpful if you do not know how to pronounce a word and you check a dictionary you can know looking at the phonetic symbols.

It is helpful as long as the one who will teach it knows how to properly use it

It's very useful. Just like singing, you should the tune of every note or else you'll be out of tune. In doing so, you know how to read.

I learnt English from games, movies and songs. Mostly game than the rest. Never try the phonics version though.
