My ex and I got engaged the day before Thanksgiving 13 years ago. I'll never forget it. We were over on the island and were supposed to go to a bar called Klee's for appetizers and drinks. Instead he drove up to the beach. I was confused and asked what he was doing. He said he hadn't seen the beach that year and he wanted to check it out. That made no sense to me because he isn't a big fan of the beach but I went with it because I am. We got up over the dunes and he turned to me and asked me to marry him. He gave me a beautiful princess cut diamond ring with sapphire baguettes. Blue is my favorite color.
After that we went back over the bridge to our usual hangout which back then was The Office. We called our parents and they came and met us to celebrate. My sister wasn't so happy that evening. She and her fiance broke up that night the year before. She still hadn't gotten over it and felt like we should have gotten engaged on another day. We wound up not speaking for like a week. Oh well.
We are divorced now but it is still a very special memory for me.

That sounds like a sweet way to be proposed to. I still remember my own engagement story. We were at home and I was watching something on television late one night and wasn't paying attention. He lit candles in our room and led me in there before getting down on one knee. Actually, he lit candles around the whole house.

@NJChicaa It was and just the way to do it. I am not the type of person who likes a lot of attention, so I'm glad he did it the way he did.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I understand. I wouldn't like a public proposal either.

I'm glad your engagement was romantic. Ours wasn't; but it was memorable regardless.
