I won a contest...but I don't want the prize

A Danish company called me and they told me that I had won a contest. The 'prize' was a free computer clean-up. I just had to give them remote access to my computer. They also needed my credit card information in order to give me my prize. The person who called said to me: "We usually charge 999 kr ($160) for this service, but you won so you are getting it for free" I can't believe how lucky I am Of course it is a scam, and I would NEVER give them access to my computer. I hung up so I didn't hear the rest of the information about my fantastic prize. Afterwards I looked up the reviews on Trustpilot. 95% of them were 5-star reviews. They are obviously fake, and the descriptions of the company were pretty amusing. According to the reviews is it the most amazing/fantastic/wonderful company in the world

Why don't you tell them to donate the prize I think they pay people to give them a good review

Yes, I think they paid people to write positive reviews. There were about 1500 positive reviews and I think that some of them were written by the same person because the writing style was almost identical.

They told me how lucky I was because I had 'won', but they didn't tell me why they needed my credit card number in order to give me my prize Some of the others scammers who have called me spoke English, but this person spoke perfect Danish and it is a local scam.

@LadyDuck Unfortunately there are people who do that (give their credit card number to strangers) One woman received the same phone call as I did and she gave them her credit card number. You can probably guess what happened next - the scammers withdrew money from her account.

@Porcospino I wonder how people could accept to give their credit card number to someone you do not even know, it is unbelievable.

According to the reviews some people fell for the scam and they lost a lot of money I am glad I hung up. I definitely wouldn't give strangers access to my computer. That is a scary thought.

Yes, I think some of them are even more active now. They have to more spend time indoor and they have plenty of time to call people.

@Porcospino true plus they have the pandemic working for them. They can definitely think about a scam related to CoViD-19 vaccines or treatment.

I am glad you hung up on them. There are so many scams. One of the latest scams here is the police scam. Someone calls and pretends to be from the police. They tell you that your computer has been hacked and they ask for a lot of personal information.

Unfortunately it looks like some people fell for it. In one of the negative reviews a woman wrote that she gave them access to her computer and afterwards her computer broke down.

Yes, they claimed I had won a contest, but they just wanted to gain access to my computer. They said I had to give them my credit card details in order to receive my 'prize'. I don't believe a word of it.
