What Do You Think of These Inflatable Yard Decorations?

The 17th Day of Christmas

I think some of inflatable yard decorations look OK at night, but during the day it's a different story. I am often tempted to come by and throw them in the trash. By day they look like heaps of scrap plastic as they clutter so many front yards on the block. I guess they are easy and cheap, but some people overdo them, I think. More on that later. I really should go take a night photo so I can illustrate that opinion. But it's too cold to do that tonight.

Inflated Nativity Decoration
This is what an inflated nativity decoration looks like when when it has the air and light it needs. When it doesn't, it looks like one of those heaps of plastic on the ground.

I agree. I notice that my neighbor who normally has a huge sound and light show, a yard full of decorations, and even Santa on the roof in a helicopter, has very little in his yard this year. I hope he's OK.

@DocAndersen It's not just Christmas. Now the neighbors have decorations for every holiday. I was turkeys and pumpkins for Thanksgiving, and, the neighbors really go all out for Halloween.

@bagarad we have neighbors that have a huge yard and a huge display, but he also dislikes the inflatbles. I love walking by his house as my walk ends to see what else he has. I don't know Christmas has changed in the last few years.

Some are not too bad, some are definitely ugly, they are not popular here.

So do they all deflate during the day or is that just bad luck?

I think they run on electricity and most have them on a timer that is scheduled to inflate them at night and deflate them before the sun rises or whenever they chose.

@bagarad Oh, I understand now. But I think they would look pretty awful flat on the ground all day.

I used to have a nativity scene one. But the bulbs burned out, hard to get to to change and it got a tear so it didn't stay inglated. I like some. Some do put up a lot. To each their own.

There are two neighbors on my block that have taken these to the utmost extreme. I kid you not, between the both of them there are anywhere from 40-60 of these. If I can get a picture I will and write a post about it. They are right next door to each other.

We have several of them on the same block. One neighbor is really extreme, probably similar to yours. I'll try not to miss your picture.

I don't like them, even when inflated. And when deflated like that, it's just a pile of trash.

I guess I'll have to wait and see when there's air in them. Right now I can't picture what it's going to look like at all.

I like them. I have mine on timers but if a lot of wind is expected I unplug them.

I would guess they wouldn't do very well in a strong wind. Probably most people keep them on timers.

I agree. Seems like they ought to go into the trash can when they aren't inflated. Several of them clutter many of the front yards in our neighborhoods during the day.
