A very sad piece of news.

Yesterday I called the friends that came once a week every Tuesday.
Hector was in the bathroom so the maid gave the phone to Marta, telling me first that she might not recognise my voice.
Marta did not recognise ME at all. My name meant nothing to her and she muttered instead of talking. I am not sure if she has Alzeimers or another sort of failure of the memory with no return.
I will not be able to see her again, not as she was. I might not see her alive, even.
Yesterday, after I hung the phone, I started to remember all the things that we had done together. The COVID has taken away this, too.

I know how hard that can be. My husband's mother is in the same position, and it's been well over a year since we've last seen her. They aren't allowing visitors in the nursing homes in Orange County despite the bans being lifted statewide. She has alstimers, too. And, so far, still remembers my husband, but now, after a year of not talking to her, not seeing her, we don't know. His sister says she's doing well. And, that's what we have to go on.

It is terrible. And I imagine that it must be worse for her husband, They were a lovely couple.

@marguicha I know that it is shocking, sometimes they remember things of the past, but they lose memory about the present.

@LindaOHio I know. I had noticed last year that she repeated sentences a lot. But this is much worse.

That definitely is something upsetting. Keeping Marta in prayers and let's hope that she is fine and maybe back to normal some day

@marguicha Oh! I have no words to say what he must be going through to see his wife in that situation. May God give him the strength. He has to be strong and be by her side. She needs him the most now.

@arunima25 And they have been such a lovely couple. Now they are both in their mid 80s.

@marguicha very true. I was unaware that she had been diagnosed already.

Oh how sad; I am so sorry!
Alzheimer's and everything similar is so very difficult. Not only for the person suffering but for family and loved ones as well.
I do have an idea of what you are going through. My thoughts are with you, Marta and the rest of the family.

I'm happy that my mother remains energetic and happy. I'm sure you can still see her someday. All of us experience old age and we are all going there.

I am so sorry to hear that. It is terrible when such a disease takes the memory away and with it your friends,

Myfriend doesn´t have COVID. But I cannot go and see her because they don´t see anyone, not even their children.
