When it comes to Christmas we associate this time with the image of Santa and the reindeer that pull his sled. I still enjoy thinking about Santa and perhaps somewhere in the vicinity of the North Pole there is a fat jolly man dressed in a red suit who laughs ho, ho, ho. I like to think that on Christmas Eve I might look up at the sky around midnight and see a sleigh with reindeer being pulled across the sky.
The most important thing to get jolly at this time is to use your imagination and remember all the reindeer by name. There is Rudolph leading the sleigh with his red nose and then is pair s we have Dasher, Dancer, Comet, Cupid, Prancer, Vixen, Donner, and Blitzen. These are the original eight reindeer and with Santa drinking all that sweet cocoa and eating Christmas cookies they had to be strong reindeer to stay up in the sky.
These reindeer first appeared in a poem "A Visit From St. Nicholas" or "The Night Before Christmas" that was written by Clement Clarke Moore in 1823. Rudolph was added later on when the Christmas song "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" became popular
Another interesting version of Santa and his reindeer came in 1902 when L. Frank Baum wrote "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus." In his version, the eight reindeer were Racer and Pacer. Fearless and Peerless, Ready and Steady, and Feckless and Speckless.
So remember to keep an open mind always and perhaps this Christmas when you get to sleep there will be sugar plums dancing in your head and sweet dreams about Santa and his reindeer.
And a very upbeat Christmas song by KC and the Sunshine Band "Let's Go Dancing With Santa"

I hadn't heard about Baum's version. Is he the one that wrote Wizard of Oz?
