Buko (young coconut meat) salad is a staple in a Philippine Noche Buena (Christmas dinner). I promised my husband that I will make this with other dishes for our Christmas dinner, even though it will be just him and I.
I already got the canned fruit cocktail, Nestle cream, condensed milk, nata de coco, pandan extract, sago (boba), gulaman (jelly), and macapuno (sweetened coconut). I was on the hunt for young coconut meat and was able to find a vendor online. This afternoon, Fedex delivered the last ingredient that will complete our buko salad.
Of course I also bought some Asian snacks since I am already ordering something from that store. So now we have Ube (purple yam) mochi, Vietnamese iced coffee powder, tikoy (I really don't know how to translate this one), hopia (rolls with sweet bean fillings), and some biscocho.
My husband saw the box as he was coming home from the gym, looked at me and said, "Really?" I was instructed to hide the goodies right away so they can survive until well after New Year.

Is tikoy a kind of cake for Chinese New Year celebrations?

@Raine38 That means the cake is worldwide, huh.
In Indonesia, people who celebrate Chinese New Year usually share it with their closest people. I don't celebrate Chinese New Year, but I got the cake from a relative once, and I thought it tasted pretty good.

@galihafif21 probably they’re stocking up for Chinese New Year. But whatever the vendor’ reason is for selling this so early, I am just happy that I get to have some and introduce this to my husband.

Oh wow, suman, I love that. I miss having that, especially with coco jam. My grandmother makes the best suman that I know. Now that she is no longer with us, my aunts inherited the task of making suman for the family. But sometimes they have no time, and we end up ordering these. It's not as good as my grandma's suman though.

Online shopping really is so helpful! Christmas is ready then? Me too getting things for Christmas and New Year's is fun. Stores brimming with everything so far. I ate my rum cake already.

Almost ready for us! I just need to tidy up and decorate our dining table for Christmas dinner. Right now it's serving as a catch-all for everything that we need to unload after getting home. If I were to prepare a Christmas dinner that I envisioned, I better start making this happen. I promise this Friday and Saturday, it will be tackled.
