In general, I have noticed different castes and communities out here have different types of sense of humor.
Folks in our community - tend to be nasty or bit chy. (Pony will agree to that, I am sure). We were usually armed force personnel, and farmers.
It is usually served in a manner that the other person can only suffer internally. If the person hurts, we always get away with escape route...we were only joking.
I, however, am impressed by sense of humor in Vysya community or business community. They tend to keep in mind not to hurt others. Quite opposite to our community. Their jokes are sophisticated witty and not forced out ones like some from Brahmin community. Brahmins generally want to be serious like elders in the family. But when they feel isolated, they try to don some sense of humor. Usually, it is the teenaged stuff.
There are other communities who seem to be completely devoid of humor. These people are nice to a fault, and yet not folks with whom you would want to spend the day.
I am for teaching humor that is common in our business community. It works like oil in engine. That is why they rarely fight.
Have you noticed variation in humor in different groups?

I am not surprised that you have such different groups. Italy is a small country, but northern are totally different from southern. In the north we have a more sophisticated kind of humor (more a British style humor) in the south they are less educated, they cannot understand most of our jokes.

Yes, I have. When my children were young and I also provided child care to others I tried to teach them that a joke is only funny if everyone can laugh about it. It is not funny if someone is put down by a joke or made to feel left out.

Many areas are like that. It is because of different ways of living.

For sure. Everyone's sense of humor is different. My husband has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor.. I don't like it!

@LindaOHio Try my suggestion next time. Pick the noun from his sentence and say which reminds me this thing was at my friends place and go on with some narrative that he cannot relate to. The joke would fall flat on his face, and he would never ever repeat such sarcasm. Tried and tested method. If not 1st time, 2nd time it will send the message home, loud and clear. Especially if it is done in front of outsiders.

For sure, jokes from people in the lower economic hierarchy wouldnt appeal to those from those in higher ups. It will be of poor taste, embarrassing and disrespectful.
I'm glad somebody else have observed this. Good post.
