Cats look cute, dogs nosy

But it is cats that are supposed to be curious. Why so?
I mean, I have seen more dogs go around sniffing...than the cats.
My issue...I wouldn't like being licked by either. My uncle had an Alsatian. He was almost human. He understood I did not want to be licked.
Much as his loyalties were with my uncle's family, I always found him beside me when I was hurting. Lucky they do not have to brandish loyalty tag.
So today is December 16. Tomorrow 17th. The date he was put to sleep more than 30 years ago. 1985. I have not forgotten and I do miss him. If he were mine, putting him to sleep would not have been an option that I would consider even if his legs gave way and cleaning increased. I am not saying it is wrong. I am saying I needed him more than he needed me.

the loss 'f such a friend 'tis somethin' one ne'er gets o'er. 'tis a personal choice, what we do fer our critters. perhaps they didn't mind the 'ffort to tend him, but feared he 'twas livin' with too much pain. sadly i've needed to make that decision too many times. quality 'f life versus my desires'n refusal to let 'em go peaceful.

I agree. In the wild, they would not have survived as much as they do with us. They would have to fend for food, and save themselves from predators and diseases from microbes. And finally, when they are down, they are eaten away live possibly because they cannot move fast enough. This sure is better. But the mental wave length if I may call it that established with these critters without any known form of communication is different. It establishes a respect for them. I wish I could explain how I felt with it, but words would never do any justice.

@crazyhorseladycx There - I may be selfish. I don't find it easy to let go. I felt depressed then.

I'm not really a pet type person... But both dogs and cats love me. *sigh*
Cats tend to explore an environment more than dogs do. Let them both into your house and the dog will run around you and try to get you to play while a cat will ignore you and go exploring the house...

@vandana7 Hmmm... I'm not sure I'd call a dog's presence reassuring... To me, dogs are a nuisance. If I had to choose, I prefer cats. They take care of themselves and only bother a person when they are hungry but usually don't mind if the person bothers them.

Some just get into your whole being and become a part of you.

@vandana7 I am the same way. I have a few pets that are missed as much or more than some people that were in my life.

Dogs are very special creatures and are sorely missed when they pass out of our lives.
