Christmas 2020

As this Christmas approaches it brings back memories of Christmases past. Every year when my girls were younger we would choose a family in need to sponsor for Christmas. Our church would supply us with the wants and needs of a family and we would set about making sure they received them. It was all done anonymously. The girls and I would go shopping for each member of the family, then wrap the items. They became more excited about buying for this family than they were about making up their own Christmas list. Now that they are grown and have children of their own, they all follow this little tradition. This year with so many families in need we would dearly love to buy for more families. Instead of gifts we are providing food for 2 families and a little gift for each child in the families. For our own little family it means we are only helping 8 families between us. I so wish that we could help more but we simply can't. Hopefully this little bit of help will lighten the load, so to speak. Hope everyone has a happy, secure, safe holiday.

This is a very good tradition. We offer food anonymously through our local grocery stores. When we go buy our grocery, we choose what we want and put in a cart "for those in need" at the exit. At the end of the day the stores brings what collected to the local charity that distributes to the families they know to be in need.

This a laudable custom! It's good to learn that your girls perpetuate it. And they'll hand it over to their children. It's not so important how much you give. It's also the thought that counts.

My girls have carried on the tradition. It is wonderful to watch the grandchildren learning that getting a little less at Christmas and giving a little more to those in need are things to enjoy.

Bless you, you and your family's hearts are in the right place. That is such a heart-warming tradition. I personally know a woman who is a high earner in the medical field who started doing this a couple of years ago. I was very happy to hear that, but was disheartened when I saw that she posted pictures and videos of it all over social media. She even showed the faces of those children, and I know the kids are getting some wonderful gifts, but for some reason it rubs me wrong.

We usually don't say much about it but this year there are so many people that need help and I thought that a little bit of our Christmas spirit might nudge someone to get out and hlp others.

Thanks for sharing, you have a really inspiring tradition. Christmas is about giving. I am sure you can help more people as this tradition in your family are already practiced by your children and next to that, to the next generation.

I wanted my girls to know that it is a very good thing to give instead of always asking for more for themselves.

That is a wonderful tradition. Even a little bit help will definitely help someone in need. To be honest, I always think that's there's no such thing as little help.

That is a really wonderful tradition you have. It would make such a difference to those 8 families. And I can understand children getting excited about buying gifts for the other children and doing it anonymously.
