Finding Time To Write

Finding Time To Write

I can't think of anything to say. My mind is like a black hole. I sit in my livingroom pondering over every word springing into my head. I think to myself, is this word helping the flow of the piece? Perhaps it's redundant or overbearing. Or, maybe I'm overthinking. I need to stop worrying about every word I write, and just write. I used to sit down and write whatever word popped into my head. However, I've been away from writing for a long while. I work 30 hours a week to earn a living. It's a must. I need to find time to write everyday even if it's only five minutes a day. Maybe I can spare five minutes of my lunch break during the week. I'm compelled to force myself to write more in my days off. I must make the effort. (C) Copyright, Kiki Stamatiou

Sometimes it can be hard to find the words, and sometimes one is just not "into it." It happens. What I find helpful is just like you said, that is...writing anything. Doesn't have to be anything publishable. Just pick a topic and write about it. It keeps the mind thinking and it keeps the "pen" moving so to speak, and if you do that enough eventually something gets written that works. This site can actually be really good for that. I can write about anything and everything and nothing, and it need not be a masterpiece, and it need not even be good. But the fact that I have written SOMETHING is what matters.

Maybe you do overthink everything. Sometimes all you need to do is start writing something. The rest will follow.

I think you were able to capture the dilemma and challenges of writers beautifully - not that a writer's block is a beautiful thing. My friend is a self-published author and she is on her second book. According to her, her editor once told her that if she is at a loss, write down words that describe the chapter. Then later on she can weave them all together to flow how it should.

@Keola12 I hope you can find time to write again. I checked to see if you were new or not because I have not seen you here before. I saw that you have been here 12 years. That is a long time. I saw in your post that you work 30 hours a week. So, does that mean your work keeps you away from here?
