Unexpected Christmas Cheer

My wife and my my mother went out and did a little bit of shopping today. One of the stores they stopped at was Dollar General. Walking out of the store with their few purchases in hand a man approached them. "Are you guys together?" the man asked. At first they were a bit cautious and apprehensive, as I imagine anyone would be in that situation. "Yes. Why?" they said. I don't know whether it was my wife or my mother who responded because I was not there. He reached into his pocket and they said they felt a little bit nervous. I think I would be too. "Merry Christmas to you all," he said, and handed my mother a $100 bill. I checked the $100 bill and by all accounts the bill is real. Believe me, I looked at it up and down. I am quite familiar with all of the security features of currency, and this bill was authentic. I have HEARD of people doing this sort of thing. But I have never personally experienced it. My mom gave my wife half. This was just a little bit of unexpected Christmas cheer I think is the epitomy of human kindness, and for whatever reason this person decided to do this is remarkable of the human spirit. My only regret is that of all people, we do not need it. But I will definitely remember the gesture, and might even consider finding a way to somehow pay it forward next Christmas.

What an unexpected happening. There are good people out there, sometimes we are lucky enough to encounter them.

One wonders what his motivations personally were. Just a rich guy who wanted to help a few people out? Just a regular guy who wanted to do that? Either way, it is something rarely seen.

Random acts of kindness like that are rare. Reminds me of the time someone stopped and handed me a twenty.

Hey, I would take $20 too. These random acts of kindness warm the heart, don't they?

Surprises come unexpectedly. That's a nice Christmas gift. I know that there are still people around there whose purpose is to make people happy even a little bit. But, a hundred dollar already means a lot for me. I hope the man will come my way.

To some $100 can make at least a person's day a little bit brighter. More than that, I think it just reminds me that there are still good people left in this world. Something I question a lot of the time, so it is nice to get a little reminder that good people still exist.

It did. I hope that guy has a very wonderful Christmas. But sometimes the joy really is in the giving.

It was very generous of the guy to do that. I never had a stranger give me money. A stranger did pay for my bagel once though.

Very generous indeed. Not sure why he did it. But I am glad to see there are people out there that put people above money. I am too cheap to do that though. lol

DG does Toys for Tots, just saying. I love getting and giving (esp giving) the unexpected. An $5, $10 or $20 tip at drive throughs is one of favorite things to do. Always with the thought that it will do more the person receiving than it would have for me had I kept it.

I have never thought to tip drive through workers, but I like the idea. I do generally tip my delivery drivers 20%, but even then since the pandemic I've raised that to about 25%.

Such acts leave a deep mark on us that the good will prevail even in the worst of times. I used to donate to specific causes earlier but I have switched to "Charity begins at home" as the needy are everywhere.

I thought so too. One wonders if he is some rich guy or just someone who doesn't care about the money. Might be someone too that got the stimulus earlier this year and did not need it and decided to just give it away. Either way, it is nice to see someone willing to do this sort of thing even if I happen to be someone who does not need it.
