Mehendi applied for wedding

As mentioned in an earlier discussion I had mentioned that my son was getting married. In what was first planned as a simple one day function turned into four day of festivity. The first day was the Mehendi ceremony. Many countries including India apply Mehendi (temporary body tattoo) on the bride’s and groom’s hand. Application of Mehendi is considered a sign of good luck. It’s a belief that the darkness of the Mehendi colour on the bride’s hand represents the deep love between the bride and groom. It also shows the love and understanding between the bride and her to be mom-in-law. The longer the Mehendi retains its colour it's considered more auspicious for the newly weds. Mehendi has a very cooling effect that soothes stress, headaches and fever. Probably the Mehendi relieves the bride, groom and the family of all the wedding stress. It was a good bonding time for us between my friends and family and the bride and her family. Below is a pic of Mehendi applied on my hands.

Congratulation, no doubt we can't think of marriage without Mehandi, Mehandi is also using as hair dye. My state is major producer of Mehandi.

Have always heard the best Mehendi comes from Rajasthan. Many specially get it from there for the marriage rituals. Thanks for your wishes.

Nice one So mehendi is not just for a bride and groom? I didn't have that when i got married because our marriage is out of India.

No its not just for the bride and groom but for the entire family. Many have a big celebration that day where the bride and grooms family have the Mehendi ceremony together. Its a time for fun and bonding between both families.

I love mehendi. We call it 'inai' here, taken from the name of the leaves that use to make it. We also wear it during wedding. Though some of it is not drawn like that. They would only cover the first portion of the fingers.

As a kid we used to grind the leaves and draw designs on our hands. We had the tree in our compound. Here for the groom usually only the first portion of the fingers are coloured.
