Do you spend wisely?

My friend messaged me today crying because her husband spent all their savings on a business venture. He never consulted her and the business failed after a month. She is so stressed because they have a child together and are planning to buy a house but how can they do it now that they have nothing left?

I try to spend wisely, but sometimes do better than others. RE:your friend, given that it was a substantial amount, her husband should have respected her enough to consult her. I'm sure though that they will bounce back, just some things take time.

It is always nice when we spend wisely. For sure, things will get better. But I told my friend that she manage their finances not her husband.

I guess when venturing into business it should be consulted with everyone concerned and never put everything in it you should always have a buffer fund to make sure that in case it fails you have a fallback on always.

@Janet357 True my wife told me the same story today about her co worker’s husband. He retired from his job to work on a business with friends before the pandemic arrived. The business was doing well by that time. But when the pandemic arrive the business got bankrupt together with his investment. Now he is unemployed and no income.

It needs a lot of brainstorming. Too bad the guy is quite impulsive.

I think financial planning is very important no matter what. The best option ahead for them is to seek for some emergency funding borrowing from their parents to tie over the whole thing then start their lives anew.

That is what they are doing-asking help from a relative. Hope the guy learned a lesson.

@Janet357 It's a shame she wasn't consulted. Some men don't consult their wives or it could be that he knew it would be a big risk and didn't want her talking him out of it.

That's very sad. What a devastating situation on Christmas time. I am not married but should I had been I will not disclose all my earnings to my partner. It's wise that wives should have separate account where she can also make savings on her own.

true. It is always the wisest thing to do. My husband and I have separate accounts so that we can spend it anytime we want. we have the freedom to do whatever we want to our money.

@Janet357 that's good. It's best that both husband and wife work. It's not good to be dependent on your partner. Your friend will have to do that too, not too late to start.

Yes, I do spend wisely. Though I am investing and I have a small business, I see to it that I make research and thorough study of the things I want to do. I also make sure to have a back up plan whenever things did not turn out the way I planned it.

@Janet357 Food business is still good. For me it doesn't matter what kind of product or service you have. It's a matter of adopting the right marketing strategy. My business is not about food but a prepaid mobile and data selling and fund transfer which are always in demand.

I always do my best to spend wisely. And if I need to get something pricey, I make it a point to think it over many times, do my research, and consult my husband. Your friend's husband should have consulted her first, that is their money and not just his to spend. I hope he has a backup plan to recover against this loss.

@Janet357 I hope he learns his lesson this time. Otherwise, he will ruin their family because of all his doing. Like now, he is not the only one affected, he actually put themselves in a position where she also needs to come up with ways to recover their savings.

He never consults her. I agree with you and I like that attitude. For big expenditures, it is better to save for them.

I think she also has whims or wants. Both of them are not wise spenders but the husband is worse.

I am trying to spend wisely. Life is getting harder, so does the financial. Her husband should talk to her about it. Starting new bussiness at this pandemic is hard and risky.
