Just a short story before it. A few weeks ago. It was in the middle of the night and we've decided to throw garbage and we heard a crying cat sound and we saw a little kitten and it seems that no one owns it. We've decided to pick it up and bring it at home. At first, we planned to give it to my girlfriend's sister then afterwards we've decided to keep it instead. The kitten is kinda upsetting because it keeps on crying but we are happy to have it. We are not prepared to have a kitten so we give everything that we have at home just to make sure that the kitten will feel comfortable.
Fast forward. A few days ago we went to a pet shop and bought things that my kitten needs, like the litter and litter box and we also bought some toys and baby diapers for him so that we can bring him somewhere. We are so excited and show it to the kitten the same with his vitamins and milk.
However, the following days the cat turned weaker and we don't know what to do. I keep on feeding him so that he will get more energy to survive.
My girlfriend woke up that night and I told her that I already feed the kitten but still, the kitten is weak. I was working at that time so my girlfriend took care of the kitten until she started working. After my work, I checked on the kitten but he is no longer responding and breathing. I told to my partner that we already lost him. My girlfriend started crying and she can't focus on her work. We started blaming ourselves that probably we didn't take care of the kitten even though our focus is always on the kitten most of the time.
Now all of the things that we bought are in the living room and every time I saw it. I remember the kitten. There are even times that I'm calling its name even though I will not see him again, because before when I took a break the kitten will show up and run to me, but now I can't hear and I can't see him. I still miss the kitten up to this time but I can't do anything about it.
We're thinking to adopt another one, but I'm worried that we might get hurt once again. This kitten makes our day lighter than before. Less stress unlike before. I thought that he will be my pet until it grows older but I'm wrong. He is my first cat though because I'm not a fan of kittens or cats.
Good bye and run free

Getting another kitten seems a good idea to me. You could show the new kitten to a vet and have it examined so that you know it's healthy and tell your story and ask what you probably did wrong in the case of the first kitten or if it wasn't your fault at all. It will cost you some money but you'll feel better after the consultation.
