A Different Kind of Resolution

I did it as a joke.
As the New Year rolls around each year a lot of people like to talk about resolutions. I never play that game because of two reasons.
I never actually resolve to do anything, and I have always thought that if something is worth doing, why wait until the end of the year to do it?
I did not actually quit. But it did get a little laugh.

@porwest What's the different between a resolution and a goal? In my case, writing something down won't make me do it, especially if I don't want to do it in the first place.

When it comes to goals, I usually say it this way. "First ask yourself what you want, then you have to do it." When it comes to goals I have to write them down. And you are right, most of the time THESE come to more fruition than any resolution ever will. And so long as we are realistic when we make the goals, attaining them with a plan in mind is not all that difficult.

You are right but having a sense of direction is important.

@porwest , goals provide direction and resolutions are nothing else but goals. Resolutions can be made at any point in time throughout the year, be it at the end of year or in the middle of the year. Whenever someone make a resolution (goal), he or she has a sense of direction, that is the person will do a series of tasks, sacrifices, and efforts to attain those goals. To me, this is called a sense of direction. We may differ in opinion and that's totally fine.

@excellence7 Makes much more sense to me now.
I actually think of resolutions and goals as entirely different things. Goals are more of a "planned" thing. In other words, goals require some planning in order for them to come to fruition. I guess you could say you could have a plan to RESOLVE to do something as well. But more often than not resolutions are more of something we say we want to do, without having a clear path toward actually doing them. It makes resolutions less binding.

@RebeccasFarm All of my bills are paid, so I don't need to pay any. I will just invest.

I resolve to get rid of that other house this year for sure. Our COVID checks have to go to getting the latest round of repairs done there. :-( Glad you didn't quit! Happy New Year!
