It is a new year, and it starts with sadness (for my family)

So much darkness in 2020, with the Pandemic, with all the election stuff, and on new years eve, we learned that my brother-in-law was found dead in his house. The last anyone had heard from him was on Monday. A friend of his went by to check on him and found his body. Not really a surprise, he was suffering from throat cancer and Hep C. Even so, it still feels like a lightning bolt hit our house. I wasn't that close to him, but we had shared some good times over the past five decades. Well, I hope everyone else had a great celebration to the end of 2020.

thank you. It was a shock, but we kinda expected it. He's been sick for several years.

Thank you. The hep c had been with him for about eight or nine years, he had been treated for it prior to having surgery to remove the cancer from his throat. It was in remission the last we heard. He mentioned to his daughter sometime on Monday he was having difficulty breathing. That was the last anyone heard from him.

I am quite hopeful for the future. It has been tough but nothing new in this household. It is always a struggle. Good luck to you.

@cperry2 At least that is a good way to go, asleep in your own bed. Better than being alone in hospital where no-one is allowed to see you.

@Fleura Oh, I can agree with this. He had been ill for a long time with hepatitis C and throat cancer. But better in his own bed than at a cold impersonal hospital room. I feel so badly for those people who are dying from Covid and are stuck in isolation. Just doesn't seem right. But I understand, we do not want to send family home with the illness that just killed their loved one.

Not what we were expecting for sure. The lady who found him says he was in bed, apparently, he passed in his sleep.

Shows the uncertainties inherent in life. In a way, his suffering has ended as cancer impacts the quality of life which even otherwise has taken a hit over the last year. RIP.

We all have our time to rest and that is the end of our journey here on earth for those whose journey went unsmoothly their end means a relief and they may have felt the happiness and satisfaction in leaving behind their distressed body. For sure he is now in Peace.
