A new year, a new week, and a new countdown! It’s time to look at my favorite songs with “lonely” in the title. Some you’ll know, some are too obvious....and then there are some that three people know and go, “yeah!” I think this first song falls in that last category. #10: In a Lonely Place - Smithereens I’ve mentioned how much I love the year 1986 for music before. We had some incredible debut albums that year that, 35 years later, still excite me when I listen to them. The Smithereens’ Especially for You was one of those albums. This song proves one thing: lead singer/songwriter Pat DiNizio liked Bogart. The title comes from Bogey’s 1950 film In a Lonely Place, and even some of the lyrics are paraphrases of lines from the movie. And hey, before Luka moved to the second floor, Suzanne Vega sang the female duet part!
