an ongoing "argument" with my husband

A couple of years ago my husband and I were walking by some college homes (homes that college kids rented out I mean it's pretty clear but I'll still clarify) and next to a trash can was a lamp with a table attached (college move out was happening at this point). My husband immediately saw it and wanted to grab it. I told him no. We were quite aways from our destination and we were going to stop in at McDonald's and wait for my mom who had our son. It was getting ready to rain (he says no but I remember it differently). I told him there was no way were going to drag the lamp/table into McDonald's with us and we weren't going to leave it outside either.
This has been a sticking point over the years and he often argues he should have grabbed it. I told him I don't regret not grabbing it because again we were going to McDonald's right after. Today he brought it up again because he has a CPAP machine he uses and he was like "if you let me grab that table I'd have a place to put it now" and I told him I still didn't regret it he could either use something else nearby or we would go buy him a side table to which he responded "I could have had one for free" and I told him again I don't regret not dragging a stupid table a decent distance to sit outside of McDonald's with it or trying to drag it inside. This is literally going to be an argument until our dying day I swear it. I know he likes to argue about it more out of amusement than actual anger but I tell ya sometimes it makes me want to smack him upside the head but I won't because I'm not violent and he should be thankful for that at the moment lol.
