Sometimes what I write haunts me

This morning, after reading the news, digesting all the stuff that is happening at this moment, I sat and wrote.
I claim no talent in poetry, or prosetry and generally I choose not share this kind of stuff, but this one begs for me to do just that. So here it is:
My eyes are open, but I do not see
I am a sheep. I follow blindly,
Clinging to baseless hope
Truth sheared by tricksters
Still, I pledge my loyalty.
The power hungry, push for more
Seeds of doubt, already sown,
Take root, grow, flower.
Their swelling fruit is darkness.
But my eyes are open, and I do not see.
Distant drums of discord
Echo across the land.
My betters lead me to war
My life to better theirs
My eyes are closed, I cannot see.

@Fleura Actually no, I am more of a fiction writer. But I have dabbled in Poetry a bit. Generally these things pop up in my head when I am trying to create a scene for my characters. This morning I believe reading all the stuff going on with Trump and his ill advised attempts to steal the 2020 election from the voters triggered this.
