The House Smelled That Deposit!

There’s an old saying along the lines of, ”House problems” is a redundant statement, because if you’ve got a house, you’ve got problems. My COVID money was deposited Monday. Apparently the house smelled the deposit, because it said, “Hmm, how can I eat that money up?” So farewell to a new computer, and all that. Instead, it’s hello, new furnace! As with the water heater (replaced a couple of months ago after 25 years), I am not complaining. The furnace-on-the-fritz is twenty years old, so that means it cost me about $100 a year. I’m very blessed, too, because I’m getting an “established customer” (read: old lady who’s used the company a lot) discount. I may have to spend the night in a hotel (there’s a Hampton Inn not too far from me, and I’m loaded for free night points), but these are really first-world annoyances, aren’t they. Now, just to figure out how the house knew I got that money...... Sing it, fellas (oh, which one’s Pink?)!!

I haven't heard that expression, but it's true. I think cars are the same. I thought I had saved for a new computer, but then the car needed $600. And I took my phone swimming, so not sure how long it will last. First world issues, for sure.

I originally heard it about cars (“you got a car, you got problems, so don’t say ‘car problems’”). It’s true about just about everything, though. Oh, well, I’m blessed. Nothing more than a minor annoyance.

@FourWalls True, our furnace and hot water heater are pretty old, so can't complain when the day comes to replace them.

@FourWalls I know. I got bamboozled into renting one... the guy said it was free and I was a little more than a bit out of it that day...

Buying. I could rent one for three months at that price.

We used our stimulus check to buy flooring for our living room and managed to put a little in the bank. Sorry about your furnace,

Thanks, but it’s no big deal...seriously. I have a rainy day fund for this, so I’ll get the cash discount. It’ll be installed Friday (while I’m at the VA hospital getting my brain tickled for my dental appointment COVID test), and I’ll start eyeballing everything else in the house that’s over 15 years old very suspiciously!

@FourWalls I'm glad to hear you will be ok financially. There are so any people that are waiting for this money that need it for necessities. Have fun at the VA hospital and all.

“Hmm, how can I eat that money up?” I liked the discussion... the way you described the situation was amazing!!! If you ask me --- Usually we have a list in our mind and when we get salary/money in account we plan it all this way It's all in our mind... I know what I will do with my first month salary. ( I have to wait for next 25 days to get it but still I got the plans for that money ready) Crazy me Congratulation on your new Furnace. Old is gold....We got a water geyser which is my older than my age (it is 33 year old ) I thought it's P!nk but it was a different artist --- I confused with her --

I've found that too. As soon as you get some sort of windfall, you get a bill for just that amount! At least you had the money for the furnace.

@FourWalls I am glad the money came at the right time. Sorry you cannot use it for the computer, but, instead for the furnace which is very important for you. You are right owning a house is so different. I rent and have other problems.

The best thing about ownership is that these problems come up once every 10-20 years. Monte the house is paid off there’s no rent to worry about....and, with a mortgage, the “rent” never goes up. I remember renting and holding my breath for the first of the year to see what the increase would be.

@FourWalls I understand what you are saying. The sad thing is I will never have enough money to buy and I am not leaving here so my cat and I have to rent and hope that one day we will have a better life than what we have now.

As soon as money comes, it finds a way to go out. Cars, homes, gadgets they all have senses to sense that there is money around and they can throw tantrums

There is a great saying. Houses are holes in the ground you throw money into, hoping to fill. you never do!

The house and your car always know when you have money. At least your new furnace will be more efficient and should cost you less in fuel.
