I see in movies that in western countries sons-in-law or daughters-in-law call their in-laws by their names not mom and dad.
How true is this in real life?
In the Philippines, we call them ma or pa or mom and dad as part of respect.
I want to learn from other culture. Kindly share.

It's probably in Asian culture to call someone older with respectable title. Like Mom, Dad, Uncle, Aunt. You call them by their name, you'll probably going to be smack for being rude I remember a Malaysian Youtuber told a story of how he shocked his future wife's uncle by calling him uncle. It's polite for Malaysian, but a bit weird for American.

This depends on the relationship. I do not cal my father in law , step in laws or mother in law mom or dad. Why because they are not my parents. I do call them by there first name which is respectful. Most of the time we call them by what the kids call them. Some of my in laws call me there daughter or niece or even granddaughter and they is totally up to them it doesn’t bother me if they say oh this is my daughter in law or she is married to my son or grandson.
In the South of the US most children even when married call there in laws mom dad, sibling, or aunt or uncle.
