It makes me sad

I will not presume to tell anyone else how to feel, but the events at the United States Capitol yesterday make me sad. It is exhausting to try to process all that activity, violence, destruction. It is too much.

It is a historical hair raiser. What a horrid paragraph in our country's history.

I really hope it is no more than a paragraph. I am not sure what history will say about all of this.

@RasmaSandra , that is good. I know you are very faithful at praying for people in need. I expect we will continue to hear of damages and casualties.

@dfollin She was an Air Force veteran who was a huge Trump fan. With her training, she should have known how to avoid getting killed—guess she just decided to be stupid.

Yes it is very sad and exhausting! I live in a suburb of Washington DC and it was very scary too! I didn't know if they were going to come out here and start trouble or not.

I am glad you are safe. I would probably keep my door shut and window blinds pulled and figure out a safe place in my home.

@GardenGerty I always keep my doors and windows shut! This is only a 1 bedroom apartment, not any place is any safer then the other. I can just pray for the best outcome.

It is sad but the whole year was sad with all the previous riots, destruction and violence. It is ugly and none of it should be tolerated.

I know what you mean. It was completely uncalled for. Over this last year, people having protesting right and left, hoping for change. First it was to end lockdowns. Then Black Lives matter and a few other things, and now, this.

@GardenGerty Lockdowns and job losses will do that. Protesting is all they've been able to do. I imagine some protesters believed they made a difference by doing so. So, they continued... and while I'm unaware of the complete details, but I know at least one woman was killed. All because they believed they could stop something that's going to happen regardless.

@cperry2 The things were reaching a climax and just like a volcano it had to erupt. The fallout resulted in casualties and loss of face. There were closer elections but graciousness prevailed; in this case people got so worked up. These will be gist for the mill for writers with their own outlandish theories. Hope the society is healed as there are vultures looking for easy prey if America implodes. None expected this outcome just like the virus that is stalking the world.

@Shiva49 I don't believe we (the US) are going to implode over this one. Ugly as this has been, it has exposed some very uncomfortable truths. Insurrection can happen here. being the biggest. I feel sorry for Mr. Biden. The job he is taking on is probably the nearest thing to impossible. Resolving the pandemic, healing the divides Trump fanned and pushed, cleaning up the legal messes that Trump is leaving behind, and healing the broken relations with the rest of the world. It is a steep uphill path regardless of what else happens over the next 12 days. Since Georgia is sending two Democratic Senators to Washington, he will have a chance to make some significant changes. We will have to wait and see what it is he actually does.

Even back in high school, I learned that the United States is most likely to fall by the actions of people within the United States. Not the result of an outside government, necessarily, but by people who believe they have a better way. I am thankful this current attempt to overthrow the law of the land failed. But it serves as a strong warning of what is possible -- what could happen in the future.

It was indeed very sad and unnecessary. Out of all of this, the loss of lives was a step too far. It didn't need to happen at all but I also believe someone dropped the ball by letting it play out, not nipping it in the bud before it even started because the authorities reportedly KNEW it was coming

@GardenGerty This is my major concerns, now the foreign powers know how very little protected Capitol Hill is. I was extremely surprised how easy it was for those terrorists to get inside.
