More fake money seen in our town

Not just our town, but many places seem to be seeing an increase in counterfeit money.
As hard as most of us work for what we earn, we don't want to be scammed by being given money that is worthless.
This is not something that has happened to us, but we have several friends who have been given counterfeit money. It's a terrible thing to do to someone, isn't it?
Have you heard about this where you live?

@popciclecold I believe it is real. Haven’t heard of anything like that in our town happening or elsewhere in our state.

Yes, double checking our money is a must these days, isn't it?

Scary thought @PatZAnthony You'd think banks would have a means to check for counterfeit.

It would be very unfair for bank to pass counterfeit bills. But-does someone check all the bills? A few years back we had problems with fives.

yes @JudyEv
It's practically worthless now. Imagine if it was 100% worthless!

Let's hope you never do. We wind up on the short end of that deal because no one is going to replace it for us.

@PatZAnthony Would be great if they knew where they got it. I know some places will investigate and the police will too, at least here. Every report they get helps them track down who's doing it.

It is such a terrible thing to pass along fake money. An innocent person comes away empty handed.

We know several (some businesses also) who have been given fake bills. They are just stuck.

It is really a terrible way to steal from someone, giving change with fake money. The other person is just stuck.

Pity there is not a way to turn in that fake money if you ever got it and exchange it for the real deal
No I had not heard about any here

Maybe smaller towns have less issues when it comes to fake money? I'm not sure about that.

I have not heard anything like that here but I mostly shop with my debit card.

Using plastic seems to be the safest thing if you are paying for something and not getting cash back. For all we know cash that is fake could be passed at ATM machines or from stores.

It seems to happen often in the United States. Are we easier to fool? I'm don't know how to answer that!

Everyone we know who has had one has reported it. The police want to see it before it even gets to the bank!

That must be really nice. It seems the larger the city and the more items to steal the more crime there is.

And the counterfeit money is not replaced, so the person with it is just stuck for whatever amount they had.
